1500 miles in 16 hours.

I woke up yesterday morning at 4:45. I jumped in my Porsche and drove it 720 miles to my house in North Carolina. Procon picked me up, dropped me at the airport and I flew back to Florida. My brother picked me up and drove me back home by 10PM.

The Porsche got 34 MPG and I only stopped for gas once. It never missed abeat all the way up and ran flawlessly for 10 hours straight. I cruised between 70 and 90 the whole way.

I am ready and poised for some Dragons tail action next week when I will be up there for 9 days.

Thank you to Procon for driving me to the airport. I felt bad asking you. Your a great guy. I wish we had more time to sit and have a beer or two before I left. See you next week. I am doing everything I can to bring up those steaks I told you about.

I only saw one other P-car on the trip. It was a water pumper targa in Sylva NC when I rolled into town.

I saw over 50 corvettes too.

That does it, I need new spark plugs and to redo my timing ASAP! I get less than half that with a 2.7L.

"a water pumper targa"

I must be having a major brain f@rt. A911 or a 'teener' with a V8 conversion?

I suspect you'll have a great time next weekend. Keep it between the ditches.

My wife thinks I am insane for doing this. It was the only way I could get my P-car up there so I can play with it. I have to agree with her.

34 MPG??? With an SC with a 3.6 in it?

How'd you do that? When I drove x-country last year at similar speeds in my 3.2, I averaged 21.4 MPG

I know my car's heavier, but not 13 MPG heavier

I can drive 400 miles on a tank of gas. My only fill up on the trip was at 380 miles and I added 12 gallons of gas.... oops 32 MPG sorry!!! It is sitting my my driveway right now with 1/4 of a tank (just above the reserve line) and 340 miles on the oddo.

My bad I did the math in my head and I though I got 34. I got 32. That is pretty consistent for this car. I was getting 30+ish when I drove it home from Kansas city too.

I had no idea ... I guess the 3.6 is just more efficient than my 3.2. Couple that with less weight for the SC ...

30 MPG would be really, really nice in my 89 3.2, but that ain't happening anytime soon

My 3.6 SC could never get 34 MPG. I'm a leadfoot, but still, 34 MPG is great.

I kept very meticulous records on my cross-country jaunt. Averaged just over 74 mph. But that includes ALL stops except for bedtime, including one really long one where I had to buy new rear tires. I got 21.4 mpg. I think my average speed while actually on the road and driving was probably 80.

I wonder if I can do something to make my 3.2 get better mileage … other than slow down of course

I got 20mpg on the highway with my modded 930. Not bad considering I was doing 100mph the whole time!

My old '88 got 23 mpg driving on the interstate avg 80-90mph with no respect to the mileage. Several full throttle blasts and even a blast to 150. And lots of traffic in Louisianna because of construction. I think that if I had more self control I could probably get the mileage up into the mid to high 20's.

Porsche made it a point to not increase the size of the engines in 911s unless they could increase the fuel efficiency.

I get a 21MPG average it seems on my '80SC no matter what speed, summertime it goes up a little, and wintertime it goes down. A/C, no A/C, 80MPH, 90MPH, out on I-15 it all evens out.

21MPG at speed.

There were a couple of full throttle blasts to mid triple digits in Atlanta. I had a guy shadowing me in a Acura TL. I do not mind someone following me to make use of my V-1. What bothers me is when they are too stupid to do it correctly. He was anticipating my moves too early and we kept getting tangled up. After about 2 of those I had enough and punched it. Put some serious distance between us and then my road change came and I never saw him again.

I also got stuck in 2 seperate bumper to bumper crawls for about 10-15 minutes each.

I know this car has been gone through and most everything in it is fresh but, its still a 26 year old car and I love the fact I can jump in it and drive over 700 miles without reservation.

They even gave me an excited wave. Which suprised me. I have given up waving to the newer Porsches. They just look at my old car like its not worthy. These folks were excited to see me.

The wife had a hand out the Targa top waving.
