Your are missing the point. These are ambitious men and they are largely politically agnostic when it comes to party affiliation.

They sense a weakness they can exploit...the Dems are aiding and abetting their aspirations, JUST LIKE THE REPS WOULD given the opportunity.

No one is one the side lines.

Not really. Republicans, or conservatives, are much more likely to not cheapen the political process by politicizing the military. They are more given to class, even at the expense of political gain...Nor would they get the media attention unless they tow the left line.

I wish it were so. I am a conservative LIB, used to be a REP. The REPS politicize the military just as much as the DEMS, albeit in a more friendly, less reported manner.

I never forget, nor should you, that the military is a useful agitprop (of the non-commie variety) to further political ends...a scenario I have witnessed up close and personal over the years.

I have to work congressional staffers of both ilks everyday, the story remains the same...what is in it for their boss.

I'll not ask how you know of his stool in such seemingly intimate detail.

With a fine patina of conservative, upfront generals and admirals as the first course.

Rummy is an equal opportunity stooler...

Exactly...warts and all.

It is not political with him, that was and remains my point. I may not agree with many of his initiatives, but I'll ***** about that when I retire

Agreed..Rummy is quite brilliant...has a great work ethic, has zero motive politically or financially, and takes crap from no man. He serves to serve.

Did you guys know he only has a standing desk in his office? I think that's why he had little sympathy for making Gitmo prisoners stand for long periods of time during interrogation.

I'm sure the invasion and occupation of Iraq wil go down in history as perhaps the most notable military action in U.S. history.

Erors get made in every war. That's a given. But a 100% error rate? That is indeed remarkable!

Rummy is an exceptional person, no doubt about it.

Precisely why he needs to be fired, and NOT replaced.

Rodeo, are you gonna change your avatar now that McClellan is out?

BTW, I was out having a smoke this morning when Scott McClellan was making his speech. His brother, Mark, is the CMS Commissioner and his car pulled up in front of my bldg. while I was smoking. I followed Mark into the lobby where we have about 12 large tv's in one wall. Mark didn't even glance up at his brother's live speech.

Standing desks are common. I would not assign Gitmo motives if I had a choice...

Many senior officers didn't support his transformation plans. Also many are probably involved in blame shifting.
