Can only display .bmp pics on desktop. Why?
Recently I went to switch desktop images only to find a black screen after selecting the new image (a .jpg file).
I try other forms of image files, and now it seems the only file type that will display on the desktop is a .bmp file (and this is not good since 99% of my image library consists of .tiff and .jpg files) Why the sudden change? Before I had no trouble displaying .tiffs, .jpgs, etc. I'm running W2k professional. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Paul |

You can only display non-.bmp's if you have the active desktop enabled. Enable it by rclicking on the desktop and choosing 'Active Desktop'.

Hey Ian,
The thing is, I believe my active desktop is enabled. Even if I go into the control panel, access folder options, and check the display web content line, I still can't seem to post anything but .bmps. Hmmmm. ![]() |

Mine defaults to .bmp when I haven't cleared my temporary internet files and history for a few months. Try that and see. If that doesn't work then also clear your cookies although you will then need to re-enter passwords to sites you visit.
