Republican radio spots airing in Nevada and Arizona on Spanish language stations are making false claims.

The Spanish-language ad says (as translated) that Democrats "voted to treat millions of hardworking immigrants as felons."

It also says that Republicans want to create legislation "to honor our immigrants."

I wonder who they think they're fooling? And why are the Republicans pitching to people who cannot vote? Are they planning to enfranchise them as Republican supporters when they are given amnesty?

You said the key word "when" they are given amnesty. Of course they're sucking up to the illegals. Lots of republicans AND democrats want a guest worker program (aka amnesty).

Weren't the dems and the reps both talking about them paying fines (you pay a fine for breaking the law... perhaps a felony, perhaps not).

I'm getting tired of cleaning my own toilet. Anyone got an illegal they can spare?

Should this be a "States" issue or a "Federal" issue?

I'm not sure myself, it is a political issue but with regional appeal.

Some of the biggest pro-illegal immigration rallies lately have featured a disturbing phenomenon: Democratic Party operatives conducting voter registration drives.

After Sunday's massive illegal-immigration rally in Dallas, for instance, the Dallas Morning News headlined their coverage: "Activists sign up protesters to put them on road to polls."

The paper quoted Lena Levario, a criminal defense lawyer who's running as a Democrat to be a judge:
"I am so optimistic that I have 5,000 voter registration cards," she told the News.

Also working the illegal immigration rally was David Hanschen, another Democratic candidate for judge. He handed out fliers that read: " Vota Democrata en 2006."

Elsewhere activists exhorted: "We march today, we vote tomorrow."
While no one involved in the voter drives would admit to knowingly registering illegals, the phenomenon wasn't limited to the Dallas rally.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that organizers of that city's weekend march foresaw the potential to harness the energy present in the pro-illegal protests and convert it into Latino voting power.

"I think it is very clear that it has the potential for mobilizing both nonregistered U.S. citizen Latinos as well as pushing Latinos to naturalize," Harry Pachon, director of the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute, told the paper.

Actually more Democrats voted for the bill than Republicans.

edit: Sensenbrenner put the felony language in the bill to bring attention to the issue, to get people riled up. The Republicans softened the language, but the Democrats (hoping that the media would give them cover fire--which is exactly what happened) fought to keep the felony language in the bill and passed it.

And every time Dubya gives another speech promoting 'amnesty' another quarter million cross the border from Mexico.

But the fact that Bush and Boxer are both playing politics with a critical segment of our workforce has little to do with the fact that Republicans are pandering to Spanish-speakers with obvious and embarrassing lies.

Anchor babies can vote, and they are going to vote for whichever party gave their parents/aunts/uncles/cousins/older siblings a break.

The corrupt US political parties are always thinking of the future, 18 years goes by before you know it and they both know that in 18 yrs. the "Latino vote" will control the outcome of all US elections.

The party is over for the honkey/gabacho. :)

I kind of suspect that that's what he's inferring. The fact is, millions of people have come here from all over the globe since 1800, and most of them legally until the last 20-30 years or so.

The Repulicans put in a change to the House Bill to change the "Felony" to a "Misdemeaner". And all of the Democrats voted the amendment down.

So, the radio ad is the truth.
