Who Thinks These Are Ultra Cool Cars?

I love these...getting very very scarce on the roads...maybe one day I will pick one up as a fun project (and turbocharge it!)

More here!

I had the '77 hatchback. Great car. Drove it to the dirt and it kept on running and running...untill I loaned it to a fried one day, who decided that since the oil cap was cracked, he'd stuff a sock in the hole.
Which then got pulled inside and mangled everything.

Do socks only work with Porsches?

When I was a teen I wanted one so bad. It had a widebody kit on it and wide tires. I test drove it and it drove like a go kart.

I ended up toying with a 67 and 69 mustang for a couple of years then parted them out and bought a 79 Celica. I drove that car for years and it never gave ame a problem.

This is a nice looking one. It is the same body style as the wide body I wanted to buy.

Huge popularity in Japan. All kinds of speed parts available. Big brakes, exhaust systems, cams - you name it. If you go to a Japanese bookstore, you can find classic car magazines. I think a lot of clean cars get re-imported into Japan.

I like the old Japanese trucks and motorbikes.

What are those?

edit: I see they're Celicas. Hmm, I never would've known. Looks like they took a Camaro from the A-pillar back, then put tiny wheels on it.

Always liked them. A guy in my neighborhood had one that was all done up. Lowered race suspension , spoilers, sidedraft Webers header. Very fast car.

My buddy had one. Used to think it was cool. What'd they have? 20R, 22R?

Damn, at first I though it was an Opel GT. I forgot all about this generation Celica. I remember really liking the first Supras.

I think those were the 18R, but some fun to be had. I personally liked the '82, '83 body style a bit better (wider) but both were fun for what they were.

Geez what a coincidence that the Toyota resembles a hot muscle car. What does the new 350Z remind you of? BTW my second car was a 2 year old 76 Celica GT coupe. It was ok, a little underpowered but fun to drive. Had no major problems in 4 years of ownership.

Had one of these (Celicas) in the mid-70's with 50 series tires, lowered with flared fenders & hopped up motor. Lot's of memories....

Exactly - the only time the Japanese cars had style was when they copied other people's cars.

Now they copy each other with fabulous results on the butt-ugly scale.
