They've been in use in Major League Baseball for a couple years now. Not sure if they are the Nike brand, though. Helps hitters pick up the ball during a pitch. Some swear by it now.

My son wears them for baseball. He says that they help you pick up the red laces on the ball. He doesn't wear them for night games. I'll have him post his opinion later on after tonights game.

I've been wearing the Nike Maxsight contact lenses for about 2 months now for baseball. I'm very happy with this product. The amber tint of the lenses alters the colors of objects around you to sharpen your perception to give a seemingly 'flat' ball in motion it's proper spherical geometry. For example, instead of seeing a green blur as the outfield grass without these lenses, with Maxsight I can now pick out individual blades of grass from the dugout. The most noticeable difference I've observed while wearing these contacts in batting practice and in games was how much easier it is to pick up the spin on the baseball now. This is because the red laces of the ball appear much brighter from the amber tint of the lenses. However, they don't work as well at night because the lenses filter out certain wavelengths of light only emitted from the sun, and not artificial stadium lights.
These lenses are also helpful when driving because of the contrast they create between moving objects. However, wearing them at night is not a good idea--it would be just like wearing sunglasses.
The most famous Maxsight lens-wearer is Brian Roberts of the Baltimore Orioles, who wore them several times during select day games last season.
If you think you are ready to try these contacts you'd better be prepared for countless odd looks. As silly as they may seem, people call them "demonic" and will be very intimidated by you if you can perfect a scowl. If you were planning on trying these lenses, or just wanted to know more about them, I hope this review was helpful.

Thumbs up

Thanks Rob,

I love these things, as a matter of fact, I ordered a supply for the rest of the year. I'll be trying the gray color at the next DE in a few weeks. I found people thought I had Demon Eyes too, scared one bar maid enough to make her jump back & screem then tell me that I have Demon Eyes , it was a hoot!!! I didn't find them too back for night driving, and can't wait to try them on the BMX track!!

Why would one opt for the contacts when the glasses are more convenient?, or are these intended to be an adjunct to prescription solutions?

Well, I tried them out not knowing that they would work as well as the do, I'll admit it, it was for the effect and I thought I would wear my Ocean Waves over them. Well, my eyes are pretty bad, and my Dr. gave me a few pairs of these to try in my prescription and that was all it took. On the convenient, I don't agree, having worn glasses all my life, having them bounce around on the race track, having to fiddle to get the arms behind my ears after I put my helment on, these are a blessing, even after I get the lasic surgery, I wager that I'll still use these. Try them, if you ride bikes, surf, play golf, ski, these are for you.

Mulhollanddose,
My son wears contacts to correct his vision. He wears the Nike Maxsight contacts for baseball like some would wear prescription sunglasses.
