It sounds like you're gonna be looking for a new gig soon.

I don't know crap bout your boss - other than what you posted. But it sounds like his boss has big expectations with no budget. Being stuck in the middle is not fun - I know. At least you have a creative outlet...

It IS good to be honest but nowhere in your entire diatribe did you offer a constructive solution to the problem. If you REALLY want a manager to listen to you, propose a solution and how it will effectively work with the time, budget and technical constraints THEY are faced with.

If they don't listen to THAT (on the basis of ego, whatever) then it's perfectly appropriate to go over their head or pull attitude - not before (my $0.02).

If it were my company I'd have given you 15 seconds to explain how you'd rectify the problem. If you explained in a decent manner, I'd ask you to implement your solution and hold you accountable for its working. If you couldn't answer as to how you'd do it, your ass would be out the door so fast your head would still be in the conference room wondering where your lower half went.

Solutions have a place in a business/professional setting. B*tch fests and personal politicking do not. I don't tolerate either.

Well, depending on your new field of expertise, you need to memorize the following lines:

1) "Was that a latte with regular or nonfat milk?"

2) "Would you like fries with that?"

Go for it. A bad job working for stupid people can suck the life right out of you. Since you only have one (life), don't waste it like that.

My problem is that nobody checks this guy. I've only been there for a year, but before that I was at my previous employer for 6 years with lots of letters of commendation form the CIO as well as employee of the month award. So I'm not a problem employee or anything, I just don't like stupid people and had enough of this guy.
I hope you're right. I know plenty of unemployed IT guys these days.

Also, I wasn't sitting around doing nothing when this whole thing started. There's plenty to do there. [/QUOTE]

That's a holeshot right there for your boss to boot you through the door...and look good while doing it.

Judging from the replys, am I to believe that none of you have EVER chewed out your boss? I find that hard to believe for some reason. I can't be the only one...

It's all supply and demand, my friend. In the IT industry back in 1999, if you were making this same statement, I'd say "Kewwwl." These days, I'm sort of "...Ur, not a good idea..."

Cool! I chew my boss out about once a month. IT as well. I'm not worried about getting fired. Too much job security. I feel better afterward. It's a small company with nowhere for him to hide.

Dave

I have, sometimes to the point where the boss doesn't come back. Years ago, I fired off bigtime on one boss, quit that day, and got offered a promotion if I came back. I've never been fired. I bore easily and my resume is about 30 pages long. I'm also consistently a top producer in my industry and am widely known in my trade circles therefore I make the rules on where I go.

I'm known to be hard headed about things.

I'm also seen as very rational and able to prove my point, so I am taken seriously, even when I'm fuming.

Never make anything personal. I'm just not very nice sometimes, especially if you are a hinderance to my progress.

You get to the point where the only solution is to become self - employed. If you can make that work, then you are set for life.

Good to hear you kiss no corporate a$$. You have soul.

Not my boss but at Rohm & Haas the VP of ops, then the VP of sales at Graco and then at GE the VP of HR. All had really bad ramifications. The past 7 years I have shown my boss 100% loyalty as well as the CEO the same. Fortunitly both guys are tops in their fields and I respect them - if not, I would most likely step into as well.

Good look with the job search!

Life’s too short. Good for you.

Yeah, I agree with Mike. In Hollywood, you best not chew out anyone. Ramifications last a lifetime.
