EGT gauge install... "PT" thread?
I've got my Jetta torn apart as I wait to put in my new/used (larger) turbo. I, err, overcooked the old one... so this time around I'm putting in an EGT gauge pre-turbo.
So, I've ordered the EGT gauge but I need to put the car back together before it arrives. I want to drill & tap the fitting for the sender while I have the exhaust manifold off, then just put in a plug until the gauge & sender arrive. I've been trying to find out the fitting type that the sender uses. After about 6 REALLY frustrating emails with the fleabay vendor who sold me the gauge kit, he finally called me after being threatened with bad feedback. Quite a language barrier. He says the fitting is 1/8" PT. I asked him if he meant NPT... he said "no, PT". I've been scouring my books and looking for info online... but I can't find if NPT and PT are the same. Anyone know?

I've never heard of PT.
I tapped quite a few paintball parts with 1/8" NPT. I prefer to tap by hand but drill with a drill press to get a perfect 90 degree hole.

I wrapped the probe wire with 1/4 fuel line and hung it with heavy safety wire till it reached the flywheel end. Then up and into the engine comp. Then to a Deutsch connector. The MSD catalog has other nice connectors. I silver soldered everything. I laid out the probe harness before drilling holes. It looks nice.

Looks good RininLB... mine uses a fitting that screws into the manifold. I'm just worried that I'm going to tap it with the wrong thread and then be SOL once I get the gauge. And I have to put the car back together today.
I tried calling the seller, but the poor guy just can't understand what I'm asking.

Turns out PT is the same as BSPT

I did this on my WRX, send me a pm if you have any questions. I put mine off the 4th cylinder in the manifold, and it was threaded too.

Thanks for the offer... managed to find a BSPT tap, and a brass plug to use until the gauge arrives.
Typically, I've run into other issues with this turbo swap... oil return lines are different, so I'm going to have to have something fabbed up. Plus, the air inlet and outlet on the turbo are quite a bit larger, so going to have to do something there too. On top of that, I got tired of the contortions it took to reach underneath the turbo to access the bolts. The only other way at them was from underneath, which meant pulling the passenger axle. I just put down my tools, I'm packing it in for the week. I'm on vacation, and don't need the frustration. I'll do yardwork instead.... weather's been nice and I want to be outside.
