Pelican Style Karting Forum?

My brother my 13 year old son and I went to the local Karting track for a arrive and drive. What a hoot!! I got passed by a 14 year old Rotax Karting Championship Series participant. I could not figure out how the squirt caght me and passed me. They were out in the rental karts beating up on us amateures.

I followed him from a little back for 2 laps watching his line. He was doing things with the Kart I wouldn't dream of doing with my car. Once I got a couple of his good lines down I was able to put the squeze back on him. My son did great too he followed mr and his uncle around and picked up some good lines as well. I was proud of him for being polite on the track and not terrorizing the little kids out there, he kept his distance from them and gave them lots of room. It was a shame more people didn't do that.

Anyway, he has a YZ100 Kali Kart we are fixing back up. He used to Autocross with it but now wants to do the track stuff.

My brother is fixing up an old YZ100 Kart too. It is ready to roll. All I need is 2 back tires and new rear cliper and my sons is ready to go too.

I am looking for a forum to learn some more about this sport. Any suggestions? I fogure 125Shifter will have a good one, hopefully.

BTW- There was a Rotax challange going on befroe we got there. We alked around the pits checking out the scene. WOW!! A lot of money in there. I dare say bigger budgets than a lot of DE guys or NASA racers.

Raced production and open wheel cars for a long time, then got tired of spending up to $10k a weekend and started racing karts. Some of the most fun I have ever had and still miss it.

May jump back in when life slows down a bit... it sure was a lot of fun.

Let me know if you're in the hunt for a shifter, need to unload my TM125 Trackmagic to pay for my motor rebuild. Goes fast, will go cheap!

Here's what it looks like noodlin' around the track w/ my son:

lowryder - very interested just wondering how to get it to Fla. without breaking the bank.. any clue to shipping costs to 34957?

PM me with details.

I tore down my sons brake caliper this afternoon. I think it is shot. I can get a whole now Master ans Caliper with a new rotor for $170 I am figuring this is the best bet.

I'd look for some small local sprint tracks for the kids to race on. The main clubs are IKF and WKA. Their first year or so the equipment won't matter if it's halfway reliable. Talk to the locals and see what's working. If they really enjoy it I recommend buying something new so it's competetive and not a pain to maintain.

I can't seem to get my kid interested, I guess I'll have to twist his arm a little.

I haven't raced since the IKF road race nationals last year, but I just bought a new kart. Hopefully the 930 will be done soon and I can get back into karting.

I roadrace so I'm not really up on sprint karts, but shoot me a PM anytime if you have a question.

Brakes are the worst part about karts except for blowing engines. I've bored out the calipers and machined new pistons to fit, but the easiest thing is to buy new calipers. You could try cleaning the bores with some 600 grit paper and WD40. You may get some new seals to work with the old pistons.
