Those darned liberal... Conservatives!
From a study released today:
Republican right abandoning Bush 45 percent of self-described conservatives disapprove of president Full story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12643666/ Of course, the same five people here on Pelican will never abandon the president. It's good to have a base.

"Conservative voters blame the White House and Congress for runaway government spending, illegal immigration and lack of action on social issues such as a constitutional amendment outlawing gay marriage. Those concerns come on top of public worries about Iraq, the economy and gasoline prices."
Sounds about right. Don't worry - we are not about to start hugging Nancy, Ted, Hillary and Al. |

I agree, the Republican party is not and has not been taking a conservative path for some time. Problem is, there isn't a viable alternative either.
If instead of sitting there aprty bashing, we actualy tried to improve our own, things *might* be a lot better.

Exactly right Tech. The true conservatives in this country are not happy with Bush because he isn't acting like a conservative. He has allowed the Republican led Congress to spend like drunken sailors, he has kowtowed to the illegal aliens, his government screwed up the Katrina rescue and the rebuilding of Iraq.
We need a MORE conservative President in there.

I've said it before here, if he doesn't get impeached, (which is a real possibility after the '06 elections), by the time he leaves no one will even notice him missing.

I'm hoping the Repubs can come up with a real conservative, but their party hasn't had one since Barry Goldwater died.
However, I thinik they are more cynical than that. I predict they will come up with a more moderate candidate this time around. In fact, I'm so sure, I'd bet on it if there were a common basis for establishing someone on a conservative/liberal axis.

Hey, don't give on on Bush yet. He's soon going to veto his first bill, ever, and he'll do it to restore budget discipline.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/04/congress.spending/ Well, he promised to veto the supplement spending bill if it contained a penny over $94.6 billion. And he always keeps his promises. That's why you've seen him fire so many people for leaks from the White House.

Well, that's a start. What's our deficit estimate for this fiscal year? Last I saw, it was estimated at $337 billion, minimum. So this new bill would bring it to $440 billion, give or take, and Bush's veto would hold it back to $432 billion, give or take? It's good to have limits.
