HR/employee rights advice

Anyone know employment law in NY?

Wife hates her job.

Wants to quit.

She does not have anything else lined up but the job is killing her.

So she wants to tell them that it's not a good fit for her or them. That she'll stay on until they find someone to replace her and request the courtesy of 2-4 weeks notice when they do find someone.

It's not a small company, they are Fortune 500.

She's been there 7 months.

Of course there is always the possiblility that they say thank you, have a nice day.

Thoughts?

Scott

Never quit a job until you have a new one lined up.

I worked for 2 fortune 100 companies in the past and I wouldn't worry about them finding somebody to replace her, thats their problem. I would just give a 2 week notice when I was ready and be prepared for them to say thank you, have a nice day. They may let her work for the full 2 weeks, but who knows.

I do not know employment law in NY.

Goodluck.

What Schuie said.

Suck it up and let the dissatisfaction be a motivator in finding a new job. Negative motivation is still motivation.

She should say/do absolutely nothing until the better offer is on the table.

From a management perspective, if I had an employee come to me and (even politely) tell me what your wife is considering telling her boss, I'd say "don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out". Dissatisfied employees are only marginally productive and extremely corrosive to the attitude of those remaining. I'd cut the losses and terminate her immediately. A marginally productive employee that's damaging to morale and motivation in the department is only a little bit better than a vacancy - and a vacancy doesn't cost anything.

Sorry. I know that's not what she'll want to hear, but there's a smart way to play this and a stupid way. I'll bet she already knows which is which.

Upon hearing her story they may send security in immediately to lock up her computer, wait for to pack her bags, then escort her out.
