Too big to fail

I had a similar problem. I shipped a part in December to London. Guy sez it never arrived, yada yada yada. In late March, the package arrives on my doorstep, battered and bruised. One of the stickers on the box said delivery was attempted; it was going to a business, so there would have been someone there to take it.
It was insured, but USPS told me that once it left the US, it was tough titty for me, and I'd have to take it up with the Brits.

Wow, Craig, I wouldn't know where to start. Too late now, but personally I would not use the USPS for anything more important than filling my mailbox with unsolicited flyers and credit card apps. To paraphrase the old SNL line, "We are the Post Office. We don't care. We don't have to".
Why not use UPS or Fed Ex? At least it stays with one company, and a competetive, profit-driven one at that. One that has an interest in making their customers happy. Anyway, good luck on this one. Was it insured?

Problem is UPS is a major PITA internationally - and REALLY expensive.
Most people don't want to pay $200 shipping for 20 lbs. Looks like it did arrive per the above Post Office narrative - (frankly speaking here) "so not my problem" correct? 1/2 hr ago his response to the above Post Office narrative was: "There is no one at my house during the days, so someone else has taken the item! I will try to find out." What's ya'lls take on this - ?

Craig,
I would do a "proof of delivery". It should come back with a name, date, and time of delivery. Did your customer check with his neighbors to see if they received it for him? Sometimes this happens. Bill |

N-Gruppe doesn't exist
|
maybe it is sitting at his local post office????
my regular mail carrier knows if I'm not at home to not leave it on the porch in the rain. they leave one of those pink slips and i can pick it up the next day. of course if there is a sub they can't even figure out to put it in the dog house right next to the front door too bad UPS is a pita...bet they might rethink postage cost, now that it is somewhere in nowhere land

These are the questions I would ask:
1. POD shows the package was delivered. Not much more you can do, this would be a service issue at the recipients end. Was a signature / release required? If so, who signed for it? 2. Delivery on the 24th was attempted at 3:15PM and was not completed. Why? Was no one home to sign for the package? What is local post office procedure? 3. So, if the package couldn't be delivered on the 24th due to no one being home, then how was the delivery completed on the 25th (1/2 hr earlier in the day)? At the end of the day, the POD shows the package was delivered. USPS is going to say they carried out their obligation. |
