That top one is a hovercraft alright, be it a low performance one that I've never seen before. Looks like it might be nice and quiet though, typicaly you have to were hearing protection just like at the shooting range.
 The bottom one says it's a sub, I feel like I have a 70's era buzz just looking at it.  Please provide a link, I'm interested in what else is at that site. I tried five times to get that picture to post- thanks.
Looks just like a coupe from here. On a closer look there is a slight Datsun 280ZX hump to it. Gotta look real close to catch it though.

That is the Caspian Sea Momster .............Soviet era troop carrier. World's largest WIG (wing in ground effect).
The WIG like a hovercraft operates close to the ground (or water) on a cushion of compressed for air for lift. A hovercraft uses a fan, the Wig uses forward motion and it's wings. Back in the day, all we had were rumors and small grainy spy pictures published in Janes Ships.

The hydro sub thing isn't really a sub. I saw a special on it once on discovery.
Basically you get in the canopy part and take it out to where the depth is okay for it, and then it sinks until the toppart is on the water. Then you can truck around for a while at that depth down in the water checking out the sites, while the part above allows the air to be refreshed and I believe the gas powered engine to breath also. When your tired of it, you flush the tanks, it rises back up, and you let someone else have a turn. |
