New Jaguar XK

Saw a couple of the new XK's at the dealer today and they looked sensational. Much better than the old model, and much better in the flesh than they look in photos.

What is the scoop on these cars? Any improvement over the old XK's? Still expected to depreciate like mad? Is it more Ford than Jag?

Could make a wonderful luxo-barge - but I haven't read anything about the new model and would welcome input.

The nose looks more and more like a Taurus every time I see the new XK. I didn't really see it the first time I saw a pic of the car a year or two ago. But ever since I read that comment in some letter to the editor in a car mag, I can't get it out of my head.

Seen several here in Europe and they look better in person than in the magazines.

Where is that "this thread is useless without pic's" icon?

I have to say it does look better, I thought the car it replaces looked a little bloated and bulbous... although if someone gave me one I wouldn't be ashamed to be seen driving one.

Now this looks yummy:

Agreed, I think the same thing. Saw a very nice one yesterday, getting into it was a grey haired old lady that had to be 70. What a waste. Good looking cars, despite the Taurus nose.

What I wouldn't do to obtain an indigo blue coupe on the 20" wheels.

Maybe in a few years when the depreciation kicks in.

This is probably NOT the correct thing to say on a Porsche board, but even though I like the looks of that car I could not bring myself to spend over $70k on it. I guess I will never be the owner of an elite sportscar, but I would much rather spend the $70k on my house or put it into investments or even buy myself a new early 911 and fully restore it (and still have lots left over)...

Nice car though...

Who said anything about $70K? If you wait a year you can pick it up for $12K

it was on topgear just couple of hours ago

Jezza raved about the looks and engine noise
but mumbled something about it beeing poor above 130mph , nose lift
then went on to ramble a abit about how it was designed on a budget, and has a wonky radio antenna and nothing new about it technology wise
then compared it to the BMW6 and the Merc SL55(i think i'm horrible at remembering Mercs cause i don't dig them one bit)
it wasn't put through it's paces by the Stig on the track

I'll say it again at the risk of being repetetive; Great looking car usually have ROUND headlights. It's what was wrong with the 996 and right with the 997. It gives older 911s "attitude".

The XK looks like a Taurus because they share the same integrated econobox headlight design. Put round lamps on the XK and you have an instant classic.
