So what did the final product look like?
Always wanted to try glass blowing but no one around here has classes.

Yeah, the pics are sort of anticlimatic. Any end results?

Ah, got it.
I work with a guy that used to be a glass blower. He's got some interesting stories. I've watched some shows on Dale Chihuly, and some of the stuff that they do is really amazing. It's crazy to see them holding the hot glass in their hand separated by nothing more than a wet sunday paper (more or less).

From the 'duh' dept. - the shocker was how bloody hot the process is.
Take the rod, insert it into the glass, SWEET MOTHER OF GOD MY HAND IS ON FIRE! Or felt like it. Working the glass, man it is difficult to get leverage. Like really thick honey which stays soft, soft, soft, then poof, it's too hard to work with. Oh and ya gotta keep it on the rod and not let it slough off. The heat when working the glass on the rod - not as hot as when inserting the rod into the glass, but your hand is above it for a long time. At this point it *has* cooled down.......from 2,100 to 1,400. Then it anneals at 900 for 12 hours.

I checked out a glass school in Brooklyn yrs ago. Never signed up but was interested enough to find out it's easy and cheap to set up a shop at home. Also there is different qualities of glass from cheap to very expensive.
Setting up glass for neon is doable.
