Dixie Chicks

So their new album is more defiant than their last, they retracted their apology regarding the disrespectful comments of POTUS' office and are thumbing their collective nose at country music.

They are set to appear on Larry King, MSNBC etc. Are they opportunists, shrewd marketers or artists of conscience?

Stations who don't play their music and fans who don't buy their offerings just fan the flames.

Why should we care? Why do they get death threats? There are alot of musical acts that are equally or more critical of Bush. The demographic of the average country fan seems to be right wing.

You have to play to your audience...and they don't

Jared at Pelican Parts 05-22-2006 04:23 PM

They suck, who cares?

DaveE 05-22-2006 04:27 PM

They can speak their minds. Everyone supposedly can in this country, at least so far. They just have a bigger soapbox to stand on than you and I.

Yep. They pissed off a very very large portion of their fan base. I liked a few of their songs, but was never a big fan. I dig a little contemporary country, but not much. I do know enough to know that most country and contemporary country fans are on the conservative side.

They do have the right to say and express whatever they want to.

They just don't have the smarts to know what they SHOULDN'T say!

jorian 05-22-2006 04:28 PM

Evidently CNN, Headline news, MSNBC, Fox etc all care. Alot. I've seen non-stop coverage all weekend here in Canada. I guess they hope I care. I don't.

Jims5543 05-22-2006 04:45 PM

U-2's entire premise int he early days when they were cool and not so chic (and I liked them) was to blast politics in their country.

Agreed or not I liked their music.

I do not like country nor have I ever liked the dixie chicks so I really do not care what they have to say.

RANDY P 05-22-2006 04:48 PM

The loud one (Manes) was on TV saying that she "never wanted to be a part of country music"

Country music is about to forget about them..Good cuz they suck. Hope they have some employment lined up..

Yes to all of the above, IMO.

I decided a few years ago when Sheryl Crow went all political that I was just going to enjoy musicians' and actors' music and performances, and tune out their views. Most of them are talking parrots anyway.

What an insult by Canadian media to their people. They think that pop music bimbos will fool their socialist masses into thinking Bush is bad. Your media has an agenda, much like ours...What is it with socialists and their tendencies to lie and brainwash masses?...Orwell was right.

Dottore 05-22-2006 05:40 PM

So this fairly average female country music band is critical of the Bush administration.

Good for them.

The more critics this administration has the better. If their critical stance helps to sell albums...good for them.

If it loses them fans and revenues...good for them - that is almost heroic and will win them an entirely new set of fans.

Win - win.

All 3 ugly.

Joeaksa 05-22-2006 11:40 PM

If they are ugly, please show me the good looking ones!

I bought a couple of their CD's but since they started acting political they lost my business. Do not know anyone who are willing to buy their music these days. Hope they are reaping what they have sown..

According to the article on Yahoo, they've sold 23.4 million albums worldwide. They won't be flying coach anytime soon.

That short one looks like a bulldog. If she was smart she should be a spokeperson for the Marines.

"Shut yer pie hole, jarhead!"
