I saw something really sad on Friday

I can get it out of my head.

I was trailering home from the track and coming through a rural stretch of freeway and I see a duck with several ducklings trying to cross.

I slowed down and the ducks stopped.
The car next to me in the fast lane ran them all over and I saw it in my mirror.

I got a little teary. When the driver passed me, she was visibly upset, too.

It keeps replaying over and over.
I really like ducks...used to feed 'em as little boy. Also had a job at Embassy Suites years ago and fed 'em then too. Saw lots of ducklings.

I know what you are going through, some nieghbor kids took an airsoft gun to a duck and drake in our pond. Then they proceeded to kill (I mean smash to death) about 10 box turtles that call that pond home. I had a tough time explaining why some kids are like that to our 3yr old lil girl. She just couldn't understand why some body would want to hurt the ducks and turtles.

Haven't "they" done studies that serial killers all got their starts killing animals?

was driving while at work the other day and as i came up on a crow i slowed figuring it'd fly off. it must have been lame because i clipped it again. the 1st thing i thought of was when george ran over the pigeons in that episode of seinfeld. you know, the one where he states "we have a deal with the pigeons", and subsequently runs over a squirrel, at which time he says "we have no deal with the squirrels!"..

anyway, about this crow. i stopped and got out and it had a wing broke from as close as i could tell. i felt terrible, even though i think it was hurt before i came upon it, and i pretty much hate crows. since i have not let crows bug me so much, and i am glad i am no crow, a duck for that matter too.

and then there's bird flu...

I had the chance to save a couple ducklings recently, they couldn't get over a curb. They were basically trapped 3 feet from fast moving cars on Sunset Blvd; mom tried her best but was no use. She freaked when she saw a 6'2" lumbering giant and the rush of metal monsters with wheels, and left the ducklings to figure it out. She slid under a chain-link fence. She panicked, I panicked, they panicked. I was sure I was going to scare the two frightened ducklings into the street. Momma duck was calling out her distress calls, as were the chicks. I wasn't about to take the rap for two unintentional homicides, so I stepped up my corralling stance (think Dr. Zoiberg from Futurama). They made a move, almost as if to adopt me in that brief moment as surrogate, or god, or something, and I pushed their little behinds over the curb and under a chain-link fence.

This was like less than two weeks ago...true story.

He's not at all; that is the non-internet Mulholland. Except he's also not called Mulholland either.

"They" have, and there's a lot of them.
