Baghdad ER

An HBO documentary of what Army medical personnel are dealing with up front and personal.

Quote:
If you do in fact watch the documentary, and every American should watch its replay on Memorial Day regardless of his position on the American occupation of Iraq, the scenes of injury and suffering are more graphic than words can explain. Limbs dangling from tendons, open torsos filled with shrapnel and the dazed stares of shell-shocked soldier, all shove the horrors of war into our untroubled living rooms. Watching a nurse mop up a blood-covered a floor or cataloging a body part in a jar would (should?) provide even the most ardent supporters of our occupation with reason to pause. And in their pause they should ask themselves: Why am I not over there fighting this fight which I so stridently insist must be fought? Is this occupation really worth losing an arm, both arms, both legs, or both legs and an arm (as in fact happens to one of the soldiers in the film)? If red-blooded Americans from small rural towns I have never heard of are sacrificing life and limb so that the Boca Raton Little League can play its games free from terrorists and the shoppers of Bethesda can pile up debt, shouldn't I or my progeny either take a role in fighting or, conversely, work to stop the unnecessary slaughter?

why don't you just title every post "here is what Lew Rockwell thinks about...(insert title of post)"

Emotionally its very hard to argue against the posted excerpt, although it suffers from a lack of wider causality, along the lines of philosophical logic such as 'should I sacrifice 10 lives to potentially save 100'.

i watched it the other night and was quite disturbed. i am no veteran of any war, nor spent much time in a trauma center so maybe i was not programed to accept the images and stories. i think the fact that the doctors over and over again called, or refereed to the war as a waste and a shame says allot. many people are dying and being maimed there and for what? a safer america? we shall see.

how will this one be spun? fint, mul, or another dubya apologist?

I really don't understand what you are trying to spin. Do you think doctors should not go to Iraq to treat the injured troops? How is that a waste? Isn't that what they are trained and paid to do?

Go to any US emergency room and see what it is like when they bring victims from a high speed car crash in. Not much difference. Too bad they are not showing what the US emergency rooms in NY and DC were like after 9/11....or after the attack on the Cole, etc. Better in Iraq than the cities of the US. Terrorists have targeted US military personnel abroad for many years...the press has just not found it in their party's best interest to pain the grim picture of a soldier's sacrifice...at least since 1973.

Haven't watched it yet, but I from what I have heard it sounds like SOP for the BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) CASH.

That's the life out there, my hospital currently rotates through Balad Airbase which is the sister to the BIOP CASH. Lots of trauma through there. Welcome to my life when I'm deployed.

It's really too bad that you are a know-nothing, an insensitive know-nothing to be more accurate.

The point is that the "caregivers" are victims of the continued war crime of the invasion and attempted occupation of Iraq, as are the soldiers they treat.

If I wanted to know what you've seen, or what you've done, I would have asked.

this from a guy that can't seem to formulate an original thought but cut and pastes everything
why doesn't he just give out Lew Rockwells E-mail for respones's
Lew's (Fastpat) latest is just supid
Doctors jobs are to save lives. Any injury is a waste you moron!
Wars job is to kill or injure the enemy until they surender or die. Wow who would have thought that that would be a contradiction

interesting factoid: County USC Hospital is a favorite training site for military docs. According to our surgeons, it is the best "mimic" of being in theater wrt GSWs and cultural issues.

It was inevitable that some would try to politicize Baghdad ER, but for the kneejerk loons out there (and you know who you are), try and reconcile the fact that it had been sent in advance to Army bases and was positively received.

Major Crystal Oliver, an army spokeswoman, said there was no attempt to censor and that the military was happy with the portrayal. "The leadership are proud of those soldiers in the film." she said.

If American casualties in Iraq aren't any different than any traffic accident stateside, then the casualties from 9/11 aren't any different than any other plane crash or structure fire.

Wow name calling, you have reduced your self to that now.

So Pat why are you not pasting articles about the care givers who work inay opeations of hospitals in any major city hospital (Detroit, Chicago, LA)? Day to day, more people are injured in the US than are in Iraq.
