911's vs. The Aggressor
I know this topic has been covered before, but I just needed to vent and see what others have encountered. That said, does anyone else feel like they sometimes drive around with a big target on their back? Well, just lately I've been tailed, cut-off, raced, chased, followed, and avoided accidents from every make, model, and idiot who decided that day "they want to play around with a Porsche." Oh, men in their Pick-em' up trucks are the worst.
![]() Not sure what it is that incites these people into driving this way. I don't drive aggressively - I have a black, stock looking car which IMO doesn't scream "race me!" But apparently I'm starting to believe it DOES! Those big @$$ Suburban SUV's who ride my bumper scare me. Too much velocity and mass moving to be doing that. I try slowing down to let them go by, and that doesn't seem to work. A quick 60-120mph usually gets the point across, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. I truly think living in NC is probably part of the problem. But it's quickly becoming annoying to even drive the car. Than again, maybe people just want to see what the car is capable of and figure if they can piss off the driver that'll get him to speed up. Well, IT WORKS! ![]()

Just today, I pulled up to a stoplight and then lookback to see this HUGE Pickup-em up truck coasting into my rear view. Thought nothing of it until he crept up on my bumper inch by inch. I pull forward slightly, he pulls forward slightly getting right on my @$$!
Of course the light turns green and I pull away (not fast) normal. I quickly merged to the left, look back and he's stuck behind another car. Great, I think he's gone. NOPE!?!? ![]() ![]() Alright so I get over in the right lane again as it opens up to allow him to pass. What does he do, DIVE BOMBS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME IN MY LANE ![]() Well luckily I had the upper hand b/c his dumb ass didn't realize a car was turning onto the road at about that same time, I merged left and floored it... nothing but a little speck in my rear view as he was again stuck behind another car. ![]() He still didn't give up, this maniac cut across a parking lot to try and beat me taking a right at the next light. He didn't succeed as I was history by the time he pulled back onto the road. Just don't understand this type of behavior, especially since I don't instigate these things. ![]()

All the time here in FLA. Crap even my truck gets agressors stepping up. All because of my Porsche crest and Mazdaspeed logo's on the topper. Its my official tow vehicle for my cars.
The RX-7 and Porsche? All the time and 99.999% of the time I just ignore them. If I was in Procons situation and it was on the twisties? LOL!! I would drive my wheels off.

Yup...its pretty much a given. Silverado full size pickup trucks with "Arctic Cat" or "Polaris" snowmobile logos screened across the whole back window of the truck are the usual culprit. Rather than sell the 911 when its time I think I'll just dyno the brakes on one of these idiots and let em' drive over the back of it and collect the check.
Seriously, rather than tear off just pull over on the shoulder to a stop and let them pass. They rarely wait more then a few seconds for you. If they insist on following for some ridiculous reason lead them right to the local police department parking lot. BTDT. Most of em' are only tough because of the truck.

Funniest thing! I remember recently heading to Winston-Salem on I-40 cruzing about 65mph... This older black gentlemen in a Caddy was following me ever so closely. Every lane change i made, HE MADE! Couple times he would pull along side me and just sit as if to see if I would do something. Well, I just ignored him and went on.... Next thing ya know I get near my exit and I'm starting to merge over... now guess what this guy does? Speeds up to keep me from getting over. Well of course we all know who wins that race.
Now he's hot on my tail and we're turning on the off ramp. Well I knew this was one sharp ass turn (almost 360 degrees ) so I just NAILED IT! I look back and see this guy off the road squealing tires and trying to overcorrect. LOL! Just the look on his face was priceless. I know that's mean, but hey I didn't make him do it. ![]() Needless to say, I didn't see him much after that. ![]() Quote:

I don't get that much around here in California. Don't get me wrong, it happens once in a while. Just not that often. I'm gussing it must be a phenomenon in areas of the country where foreign sports cars are very rare.

Rev your engine at the light, and give them the `I`ll race ya `look. Then, just let them go far, far ahead...I did it once, and it was pretty funny.
Another time, a moron was on my tail. I hit the brakes lightly but surely to slow him down, downshifted and bye bye...that was fun too. Aurel

I get it all the time around here. Rednecks in pickups or rice boys. The rice boys I ignore. They want me to race, I just look over at them and visibly laugh, then I take the next turn.... Let them go to the friends an brag that they "killed" a Porsche in their Civic.
The Rednecks in the pickups are another story. I usually take the first street with a bunch of twisties or a really sharp turning exit ramp. That gets them off my tail. Another trick is to blow past the 18 wheeler, change lanes to the other side and let the 18 wheeler pass you. They see you disappear in front of it, and when they try to catch up, they can't find you. Look at it this way.. they are envious of your car. Otherwise they wouldn't do it.

I will chase a Porsche - but I leave a nice distnace, let them over, etc.
That said, its mostly kids in hot rodd-ed off road vehichles that display a bothersome attitude around my car. SLaming past me as I'm slwoing for a red light, and cutting in front to show they can pass the Porsche, etc...

I used to get that type of crap fairly often in the 911. I had an old 80's Bronco II almost roll at 90 in front of me on the freeway once. I'm pretty sure he had to change his shorts after, I know that I did. I had a guy in a diesel 3/4 ton pickup follow/race me once. It was pretty amazing. He pretty much kept up the who way. Those big turbo diesels can do amazing things. Most of the rest I managed to either defuse by slowing way, WAY down until I was too boring or by just dropping a gear or two and leaving them behind. I don't get it quite as much now in the miata, but I still do get it some. I've had kids in hot sounding mustangs try to goad me into a race in the miata. I just laugh in my little 8 second 0-60 car. I'd leave them behind in the twisties, except in Houston except for the occasional on/off ramp every road is several lanes wide, and straight as an arrow for 10 miles.

The wife and I were cruising down the 4 lane recently next to a cigar smoking driver of a Ford Coupe Street Rod!!! He had the full on deal w/ engine lid completely pulled off, fully exposing that HUGE chrome blower.
![]() ![]() He does a couple of quick "take-offs" trying to engage me, but I was just gonna let him go up until... ERrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk [record scratching sound] ...wife says: "are you just gonna let him get away with that." In utter disbelief, but with some confidence I said: "Why, NO... I mean err HELL NO! Now that you mention it." LOL! I popped it down in third with him beside me and just let her RIP! Next thing I know we're doing 130mph and I'm looking back in the rear view at the street rod along with 2 other cars trying to hang. ![]()

I don't get much of anything here in Vegas. 99.9% of the time, Most stay away from the rear end. Racers aren't really all that many. Ive had a couple of honda's, formulas, stangs, even a motorcycle tried to play, but were all lost in the corners(for some reasons, THAT's the only time somebody wants to race, strange.). Nobody has pulled up at a light, revving the engine, as if we were at the local strip. In the fast lane on the highway, most see me coming, and move to the right.
But when I drive the family car (Hyundai), thats a whole nother world. It's as if there's a target on it.

A couple years back on the I-5 through Tustin Ranch I had to get out of the car pool lane cause my 86 911 struggled to maintain the flow of traffic the Expeditions and Tahoes were setting...

Those are some stories, some people here in Michiagn act a little nuts around a Porsche even a rough around the edges one like mine.
The latest story is; there is a line of cars turning left, my car was the last one. The lane which turns right is pretty small (must turn can't go straight), most full sized cars and trucks just can't squeeze by and have to wait before they can get in - I even have to wait half the time. The road is old and made before giant SUV rulled, speed limit is 25 mph, residential cross street................ So out of know where I hear this horn just about in my ear, I look over and this guy slightly behind me swearing at me telling me to get over. He is in total panic and angry (might hit the curb or the power box 12" off the corner - been hit twice in ten years), but I'm already starting into the turn. I yelled something back just as nasty, I tried to wave but only one finger came out. Notes to people in large cars on tight urban streets: 1. If the road or lane is narrow don't blame the other cars or drivers of cars they did not design or build the road, it was there before any of us were born. They/we are in our lane and fit, suggest you stay in your lane without causing undue attention to your lack of driving ablities. A horn just tells us you blow, and blow hard. 2. If the parking space says small cars only, that's what it means. 3. If you can't parallel park or fit into a steet side parking space then use the parking structure. 4. While in the parking structure you see a sign saying "full sized SUV's and Trucks do not use ramp", don't use the ramp, do not go flying down the ramp at 40 mph, speed limit is only 5 mph in there. 5. Respect small cars, motorcycles, people on bikes including designated bike lanes. Thank you for your time. ![]()

when these situations occur on the streets and it starts to get out of hand............get his plate number and call 911! save the racing for the track! and laugh all the way to or from work that you got some idiot at the very least a lecture on his poor driving habits and his failure to fully grasp traffic laws.

It's strange. I don't get a lot of challenges in the 930. In the past few years, maybe 3 or 4... and 2 of those were Ferraris, whose lunch I then ate.
However, friends of mine who have driven my car claim that they're "always" being challenged by other drivers... JP
