Any communications technicians here?

Reading other recent threads...
TerryBPP noted a lack of communications between professional in the same industry, and LubeMeister noted a lack of forthcoming-ness from an industry representative.

I feel some of it may be paranoia, and some may be turf protection.

Anyway, here is my story - which will be followed by a request relevant to the title of the thread.

I have been in need for some time now to upgrade certain components in my shop. A few weeks back, I contacted another professional in a similar but unrelated industry. (I am in aviation electronics, he is in cell phones, pagers, etc) He was referred to me as a contact by a mutual friend because he USED to be in aviation electonics[avionics]).

I asked him what equipment he used to use for testing a certain type of VHF communications antennas. He proceeded to ask me lots of more in-depth questions... "what platform does it go on, who is your customer, how much do you charge, etc"

I'll tell you.... "who is your customer" made me uncomfortable, and I dodged the answer. But when he asked, "how much do you charge"... well, that was it. I politely ended the call. I don't think I was being paranoid - I think the questions had gotten too intrusive.

All that aside, I would like to ask some advice from anyone here who has experience testing VHF communications antennas - some use internally diplexers and some use external.

Please PM or email me if you are in this industry and don't mind me picking your brain.

Thanks.
