We had a couple of guys show up reperesenting ADT talking to us about how beautiful our house was and they wanted to use it for advertizing. My wife was wise to the coming sales pitch. When she pointed out that we had a no solicitation sign on the house he said he was offering to give us the system not sell anything... Right. I told him to leave we already have a system but we didn't need to put the stupid sign up.

All of my dealings with ADT have been good. My dealings with the installers is a diffrerent matter. Truly these systems arn't going to be a deterent to a serious attempt to breach your home, but at least the noise will keep the stupid ones out.

ADT is in the process of screwing me over. Very long story, my mistake and they are trying to make me pay $1800 for me missing a monthly payment. Like a fool I signed a new contract with them now they are sticking me for the old one. I am a fool.

10 years ago when I lived in an apartment in West Palm Beach there was a knock at our door. Which is strange because the outside door is locked so no sales people can get in. These guys somehow got in.

My wife answered the door I was in the bedroom. 2 guys are there selling a cleaner. They proceed to spray our carpet and clean a spot. Then 2 more guy knock at the door. They finished their sale and were waiting for the other 2. Now I have 4 guys in my apartment with just me, my wife and my son. I get a bad feeling like a chill I was not easy with the situation I just put myself into.

I excused myself and went to the bedroom. I do not own any guns but sure wish I did then. I called my dad and told him to call me back. Then came back out to the living room.

The phone rang a minute or 2 later and I answered it. I began to talk to my dad and walk to the other room. I said loud enough for the salesmen to hear, sure! come on over, then announced to me wife to wrap it up my friends are coming over.

The cleaning stuff was good, I handed my wife the $30 bucks to buy a gallon and ushered these guys out in a hurry.

They were probably legit but I scolded my wife for letting them in. We had a do not open the door policy from that point on.

Looks like I was right:

There is a group going around town pretending to be with a home security company and offering to put a security system sign in the front yard and giving the homeowner some type of $99 item for free if they are allowed to do it. Please pass along to the neighbors that this is bogus. These people are running a scam in the upscale areas of town and are using this technique to find out which homes have security systems already and which do not. They are then using the free item deal to gain access to the inside to case the house. If anyone has been taken in by this or admitted to one of these people that they do not have a system they are at risk of being burglarized. One of these people stopped at our house on Wednesday so they have been in the subdivision. I would have called the police and reported them but didn’t know at the time that it was a scam.

This used to a pretty common phone scam as well, caller posing as an alarm salesman, noting addresses of houses without alarms.

My condo is in an "adult community" which means no kids no dogs. It also means that I am the youngest person here by about 40 years. The neighbors are super friendly and keep an eye out for each other. They call me if there are any shady young people hanging out in our little are "it's way off the beaten path" and they, in turn keep an eye out for me and mine. A couple of months ago they let me know that there was someone looking at my 968 the previous night. That day I double checked the alarm and changed the setting to stupid sensitive. About 0130 the following morning my alarm went off and I had enough time to bolt outside and corner (dead end garage) a teenager with a couple of locksmith's tools. My fiancee called the police who arrived post haste to collar the bad guy. The moral of the story...
Get to know your neighbors and treat them well.
