Hi Ryan,
My opinion is I don't want anything the club does to be perceived as "snooty". On the other hand I suppose I would like having a Mid9 sticker on your car to be special, NOT the equivalent of having a sticker that everyone has on their car or tool box. Maybe we can't accomplish both without being perceived as snooty and if so I will back off the idea. I am more repelled by the snooty label than attracted by the exclusivity of the sticker. I feel Mid Years spent their time in purgatory and now seem to be gathering a little patina about them. An appreciation for being (I suppose) the "early car" of the short hood era!...last of the lightweights, etc. A certain air of specialness via a little sticker would be nice but not an air of egotism. |
Hey, I just noticed we got moved to Off Topic! I thought OT was for discussions NOT about Porsches?
So does this mean that any thread about RGruppe or Gruppe B will be moved to OT too? |
Kudos to all you folks...I love it when a plan comes together!
|
thanks, seahawk. :)
yeah, dan..i agree i'd rather us not be perceived snooty..too much of that in many p-car circles already. i hadn't noticed we were moved yet..but, yeah..point well taken. we're just still being 'disrespected'..same 'ol same 'ol.. ;) ryan |
Seems to me this discussion was/is about a club;)
|
oh, okaaaaaaay..bill.. (sniff sniff) ;)
|
Can mid-year watercoolers (2001-2004) join too?
:p |

Not upset Bill. You help us too much for us to not appreciate you. We'll go back to our clubhouse now:) |

Agreed, Mid9 is intended to have a hand-in-glove affiliation with Pelican, not an either/or situation at all. Without Pelican we might not exist.
Watercooler Porsches in OUR club? OF COURSE! SmileWavy As a former 944 and current 951 owner I am a member. Okay, I have a mid year 911 too but the club is for owners and those who appreciate the era. At least that's what I think. Reasonably sure the Pooh Bah thinks this way too. We spent too many years on other era's ****list to allow any other Porsche owner to feel that way. |
Born of the Pelican and loyal to the Pelican we humbly remain... but I'll be sneaking out for an occassional Mid9er from time to time. I'll hear no chatter about leaving the Pelican... pray tell, my car wouldn't be what it is today without the friends and advisors I've met on Pelican. But you'll never catch me on the 914 blog!

peliwhat....?
:D |
guesss I am in the ozone here....do not understand the reason for the seperation at all.
|
Afterburn... The guy who appears to live on an "island" can't see the reason for seperation? That's funny!
I can understand your point though, the primary and I suspect the only reason man seperates himself by association is to gain what he preceives as distinction (by associating with those who share his interests). Is it a necessity? Of course not but it is human nature and as such is just one more thing for us to enjoy. Monogamy was never considered or suggested. There is no growth if we don't recieve new information from new sources. Why don't you fly that red duck down to Ventura in September and meet some of the guys? Mid9 is free and has no requirements other than your occasiional interst in others who maintaini cars similar to yours. Better bring your ozone though, I hear LA is running out! :-) |

There may be a semantics issue. There is no intended "separation". We formed a little club for our own amusement at basically having one. Our website happened because someone offered to make one for us and had the talent to make it look VERY professional, very nice. Go there and you see, read, nothing but Mid Year pictures, problems, etc. It is not intended to replace our participation on Pelican. Its just an opportunity to share our experiences with the Mid Year era-unique enhancements, modifications, problems. We may go on a run or two together. We may decide to buy some stickers or T shirts or such. |
exactly..no diff from rgruppe, gruppe b, scwdp..just another spin-off club, not an actual 'movement' intended to undermine participation on pelican's forum..lol.

My impression was that the effort may be perceived as siphoning Pelican members attention away from the mother ship. When going into the forums one of the first threads that caught my attention was one that steered members towards Performance Parts. Just didn't seem kosher.
Just an observation. |
rick..just went to check that in the forums..it certainly isn't the aim of the group to direct members to alternatives to pelican, although i'm sure most members are savvy enough that they're aware of the various catalog houses. i didn't find the one you reference for performance products..or is it the automotion thread?
not sure how much can be done about threads such as this other than to discourage it (as is often done on pelican) or simply 'moderator delete'. at present, only smitty and i have moderator priveleges, but that will probably change as we find who the more 'active' members turn out to be. since it's just getting launched, and really only meant initially to be a simple car club with a registry/list of members, it may take a little time to get snafus and such worked out. smitty offered the availablility of a forum, so we decided to go with it. certainly neither he nor i view it as any sort of replacement to pelican. maybe we're doing too good of a job of copying the forum format, with all the inherent 'unpredictablilities' that inevitably arise. the intent of the club isn't to be stepping on toes or driving business away from pelican. i'll get with smitty and see what ideas we can come up with to alleviate those concerns and insure no injury comes to the mother ship. appreciate your taking the time to voice your concerns/observations, especially from so senior a pelican member. best, ryan |
