Cheesesteaks or You aren't coming to philly.

Since most people wont come to philly in their lifetime....You can possibly find a real PHilly cheesesteak in your area.

I dont mean Steakum on White Toast. (OHIO -Mid 90s)

What is a real Philly cheese steak? There are so many styles here--every shop is subtly different.

One this is for sure though. Any shop saying they make authentic Philly cheese steaks without daily air freight delivery of fresh rolls from here is a fraud.

I believe for authentic philly cheese steak, you need
"Amorosa Rolls".

Philly's Finest, in Jacksonvill FL, has Amorosa rolls shipped to him.

I believe Amorosa has also opend a bakery some where in Texas, after many pleas from a Cheese steak shop.

A standard Philly cheese steak is a 8-12" long roll with Thinly sliced steak, warmed red Sauce*, onions and American Cheese. Some places use a little salt and pepper on the steak. MMMmmmm.

* Red Sauce = Tomato based red sause, GRAVY for yoos Italians, Some places use Pizza sauce. Its probably just Spagetti sauce.

And you can get it any way you like it. Wit or Witout onions.

I prefer Chstk, mush n mayo, no onions. Toss on lettuce and tomatos and call it a Chstk Grinder.

Grinder = Toasted Hoagie.

Confused yet?

Red sauce = "pizza steak" in most places. Sometimes pizza steak also gets you "mootsarell" but usually just provolone.

One other big differentiator is how much the griddle man chops up the meat. Some places just give it a gentle couple of chops, but other places really dice it small (along with the onions). I really hate the places that don't chop it at all. It is a really crappy grade and cut of meat after all.

The wifey was in Philly and had a cheesesteak with bad onions I think. You know the kind of onions festereing with bactiria. Anywho she pucked the whole way home (7hrs) and hasn't had the hankering for another cheesesteak since.

I grew up in NJ and have been to all the great places in Philly for cheesesteaks. We had one good one when I was in college in Pittsburgh and we had plenty in NJ too. When I first moved to DC I went to order a cheesesteak and the dot head working there said "Would you like lettuce, tomato and mayo on that?" I thought she had misunderstood me and said, "No, I ordered a cheesesteak." She looked at me like I was giving her a 'tude. Anyway, that's what they call a cheesesteak around DC. It's pretty sad. Anyone have that photo of John Kerry eating one with swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato in Philly? That shot cost him a few votes.

Mmmmmm, Cheese Steaks! ! ! Oh how I miss Dalessandro's. I might be moving back to Philly in the next couple of months. One of the few things I am looking forward to are Cheese Steaks, good pizza, and Yuengling. Has anyone ever had a Schmidter? I've never had one but have only heard good things about them.

Here is the picture of John Kerry eating the swiss cheese weber steak (at least that is what I have always called a cheese steak with lettuce tomatos ect):

Sure, I lived right around the corner from McNally's. Apparently, they franchised the Schmitter and it's served in the new baseball and football stadiums.

I haven't been to philly in a couple of years, no more radioactive material in the water well, keeps me out of that area.

I have never had this one before, when Pat's is full, this place is empty.

This is the KING, you can stand at the same spot as Rocky at this place.

Every time I've waited in a long line at Pat's, there was an equally long line at Geno's. But I'll give Geno's a try now since their English sign flap.

I can't spell Schmitter, let alone Dalessandro's. Thier number is still in my cell phone with the name spelled correctly, even though I am 2000 miles away. I lived in Manayunk, and Roxborough for 3 years. I lived at the top of the wall on lyceum st, then on terrace st in Manayunk, and finally ended up just off of Henery and Valley Rd in Roxborough. I grew up out in Bucks County, and do not know about the horse meat incident.
