Anyone download/install Vista Beta2?

I have it installed on my "toy" laptop at work. Other than it being kind of slow (not enough ram on my machine at 512mb), I am kind of getting used to it.

Nice to see that with IE7 M$ finally included tabbed browsing.

The User Account Control utility is a piece of crap. My system even seemed to speed up a little after turning that off.

Anybody else give beta2 a try yet?

Maybe a better question would be "has anyone else pounded their balls flat with a ball-peen hammer?"

Seriously.

You know, as crappy as all of the Microsoft products might be, I take home a decent paycheck because of them. I'll live with it and hope that some of the problems stick around - I call it job security.

I'll need to be dragged kicking and screaming to Vista ... hopefully never. I definitely do not need eye candy and bloat slowing down my computer using experience (mostly games + MS Office for work).

The bad news for me is that it looks like DX-10 will suck me in eventually

Yeah, have fun in you Mac cabin writing manifestos nut bag.

What a dumb comment.

We have been running it for months at work (being an MS partner in Seattle has its advantages.....). The aero glass feature is a pig. It needs a fair chunk of video memory to run smoothly. The security is great, but I worry its overkill, and people with just disable it.

What is the "Aero Glass" feature? If it is just eye candy, what is the coolest part, and if it is functional, how?

Yup. Eye candy. It creates tranparent windows that can be layered. I have not noodled with it much, as I turned it off straight away.

Not really. I can say some positive things about the Macs.
Example: Importing, editing and burning video on a Mac is a breeze. Using the built in software, you can quickly make very high quality DVDs. Doing the same thing on an XP box would be a patheic joke. Hell, you mention the 'Windows Movie Maker' to a Microsoft employee and they will just roll their eyes. Even they know it sucks.

I ordered Vista from Microsoft since I don't have a machine that can burn DVDs. Hopefully, they'll respect my $6 and send me a copy...

I'm a computer nerd at heart. I'm looking forward to Vista - the interface looks very cool. I already have a beta of Office 2007, and have been running that with much success.

But Jeez, if Vista requires 512mb of RAM, I'm SOL as far as it having any sort of speed.

Darn it!
