Don't know what it takes to float your boat, but,

[Dr. Sam Johnson (with laurel wreath in hand) greets Bart (the new sheriff), reading from a piece of paper, not realizing that Bart is black]
Howard Johnson: As chairman of the welcoming committee, it's a pleasure to present a laurel, and hearty handshake to our new...

And,

[Rev. Johnson is addressing the town]
Reverend Johnson: Order, order. Goddamnit I said "order".
Howard Johnson: Y'know, Nietzsche says: "Out of chaos comes order."
Olson Johnson: Oh, blow it out your ass, Howard.

Did we miss 'Man with Two Brains'?

I vote for Airplane just because Leslie Nielsen is the funniest actor in movie history (my opinion, but you all know I'm right :D).

Naked Gun (the first one) makes me laugh until I cry too.

Then there's Major League -

"What team did you play for last season?"

"State Penal"

Casting really put Airplane over the top. Along with the funny guys, there's Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack and Peter Graves. Three guys that you have never seen in comedic roles. Growing up watching Sea Hunt, The Untouchables, and Mission Impossible, these guys were so out of character they put me away.

Bart: 'scuse me while I whip this out...

Bart: "I hate to disappoint you, ma'am, but you're sucking on my arm."

Nah! I just read that way. Defending humor is low art in and of itself.

Okay. Now that's funny.

Good point. Actually, one of the better points.

I'm joking about this whole thread. Fact is, BOTH movies are good - I just happen to like one more than the other. And it might be an age thing as one poster put it.

The sad truth is I'm not sure movies like Blazing Saddles or Airplane could ever be made again. There'd be so many fearful links in the chain from script to can, I'd be surprised if they would be found on the video shelf at the local Piggly Wigglies, TG&Y, etc.

bigchillcar 06-19-2006 11:26 PM

as i recall, 'airplane' almost didn't make it to the screen for a variety of reasons and then the directing team split over differences afterwards. too bad..

Did anyone notice that "Scary Movie 3" is also a David Zucker creation?

http://imdb.com/title/tt0306047/

I ususally hate pop-movies, but I watched this one night on TBS and was rolling on the floor. Zucker still has it after all these years.

EDIT: That, and I'd like to have Anna Faris for dessert sometime.
