Moneyguy1- jorian says that GW was caused by hot air?

Nope. Was just commenting on 914GT's link to a paper disputing the cause of GW. Nothing in it (it was only a paragraph or two) convinces me that GW isn't the cause of CO2 emissons.

Then you are ignoring what several reputable climatologists have to say. To be 'convinced' indicates you've made up your mind and that you reject any research by other scientists working in that field. I would not be convinced of anything at this point in time. Being skeptical makes a good scientist.

I'm not referring specifically to that post or that paper by Hansen. I'm referring to all research by all climatologists, where there is disagreement that CO2 is factor in global warming. You seem to need 'convincing' that CO2 is not the cause of global warming.

You can't argue with a liberal, especially a canuke, they have no grasp that the Earth has been going through climate changes since the beginning and that the same stupid liberals were saying we were going into a global freeze in the 70s. Weathermen can't even predict the weather day to day, yet these dumb asses think that they can predict that the earth will burn. THEY DON'T HAVE A CLUE!!!! They ignore real threats that have attacked us like terrorist, accuse Republicans of using fear tactics, yet they call and lie to old people about losing government aid and global warming. I think I'll go out and punch a liberal to day all in the name of Free Speech , an aclu one at that!!

This is from CNN.com this morning - top story:

Study: Earth hottest in 400 years
The Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, probably even longer. A panel of top climate scientists told lawmakers that the Earth is running a fever and that "human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming."

It's hard to imagine that people still think the technological age beginning only 125-150 years ago has had this much impact on the earth's climate. It's even harder to understand that some still believe current global warming is fundamentally a natural cycle.

Face reality, brother, all sides act the same once in power.

That's the reason they want power in the first place - to institute their beliefs into government policy and move the culture in a direction that makes them happy and comfortable.

So why aren't non-leftists nearly as exercised as leftists are? Do conservatives handle heat better? Are libertarians better swimmers? Do religious people love their children less?"

Thw whole article is here

I think he's on to something!
Probably for the same reason another segment of the "great booboise'" became fearful of the collapse of America as a result of 20 guys that got lucky when the federal government refused to do its' duty on 9/11/2001.

But they also admit there was a period of warming around 1000 AD and they are unable to assess its magnitude and whether or not it was similar to that occurring today. It also cannot specifically determine what the 'much' is as far as human activities - it very well could be part of a natural earth cycle. There's absolutely no doubt the earth has been in a warming trend, the paper only reinforces what has aleady been observed for hundreds of years. The proof it's caused by human activity still eludes us.

Supposedly, we had a similar "warming" period in the 1920s/30s. I read an article in Popular Mechanics years ago that quoted newspaper articles from the 1930s that could have been written yesterday. They were all freaking out about "global warming". The funny thing is that the Earth then started cooling and continued to do so for the next 40 years or so.

Does anybody have any details about what went on in the 1930s?

While I am convinced that the Earth is warming (heck, it's 97 degrees outside right now with a heat index in the low 100s), but I am not convinced that there is anything we can do about it. Seriously. We cannot pinpoint to what extent "greenhouse" gases are contributing to the current warming. If we can't quantify that, then how can we quantify the mitigation of global warming by reducing the output of these gases? Can we really substantially reduce the output? I doubt it. Should we try? Maybe. We might simply be along for the ride at this point.

Already they are confused.

Earth is hottest now in 2,000 years, according to study that says humans responsible for much of the warming

Study Says Earth's Temp at 400-Year High

Take your pick. 400 years. 1000 years. 2000 years. The earth was as hot or hotter then before significant human activity.
