Just got back from the bars in Houghton, MI...

Not to be confused with Houghton Lake, mind you.

I'm spending the week with my wife's family in Chassel.

So, after the Kewanaw Brewing Company (best beer I've ever had for $2 a pint--brewed on location), we decide to hit the "Dog House" (Douglass House for the non-locals). After settling at the table, some guy hobbles in with a cane under each arm. He heads straight behind the bar and starts fixing himself a drink. Once the bartenders realized he was there, they shewed him back to the other side of the bar. Near me, some girl starts to take a chair from an empty table, the guy with the canes yells from across the bar: "That's taken, put my f***ing chair down!"

After he has been served (as opposed to serving himself) he hobbles back to what apparently was his table, but stops on the way to tell my wife: "Move your f***ing ass out of my way!"

Now, I didn't say anything to the guy as it appears life has crapped on him and he's taken it pretty hard (which gave me some sick level of satisfaction). But, I mean, what an a**hole.

And up until now I thought the highlight of the week was pulling down a 60' birch tree with a pickup truck (and having it narrowly miss the cab of the truck in the process).

Being a fine Finn from Michigan, I love the north woods. I fly in and deer hunt near Crytal Falls with my dad each year. As a child I would ride by bike around the Kewenaw peninsula every summer.

Now you haven't been to a bar until you have been to the Gay Bar, in Gay Michigan......(I ain't makin' this up...)

So how do you know the Dog House??? I lived in Hancock/Houghton for 4 years while going to school. Spent many, many a night in the Dog House ....

My wife's family owns some cabins on Portage Lake...they rent to college students during the year.

Or the Butch bar in Hackagoober. Where theres lickker up front and poker in the rear!
