Damn lucky.

The toll on equipment is in the billions, according to recent hearings in Congress.

Holy key-rap!

Thank God no one was hurt, I guess hummers are good for something after all!

Imagine an old style Jeep.

On the other hand, that'll buff right out after a bit. A long bit.

EDIT: Bugger, Scott beat me to it.

That's pretty amazing. I climb around on HMMWVs every day and they are pretty stout vehicles. One of our guys just got back from Kuwait (doing some HMMWV refurb work) and he had some pics of one hit by an IED. Really shredding the rear end of it, but the cab was spared, luckily.

Looking at that pic it looks like there's pretty stout armor on the cabin.

I think it is 1 inch steel, but I could be wrong. The government issued hummers are no joke, I know that. Must be heavy as a mofo

It's hard to tell if that one is armored or not (actually, now that I look again I think it is). Those armored doors weigh a ton. I think the glass is about 3 inches thick.

I think it's more like 3/8" to 1/2" (somewhere in that neighborhood). We've got some HMMWVs upstairs that are armored and it's not 1" for sure.

The funny thing is that the armor weighs so much, it really reduces the payload capacity of the HMMWV to next to nothing...

I weighed one the other day. 9925 lbs. This included a shelter on the back, though. It wasn't an armored version.

That shell must not have had the full strength explosive charge in it, I'd expect a 160mm shell (which I can't seem to find a reference for) to have torn the Hummv in half.

They were lucky, and I'm glad for that. Let's hope their luck holds out.

It'll be on the local car lot soon.

There's a company about a mile from my shop that buys HMMVs from government sales and then refurbishes them, paints them civilian colors, and resells them.

Bet he'll take the one with the bad nose, plus the one with the bad backend, and make one good one. Probably buys them for next to nothing.

Posting military capabilities and personels faces on the internet is very, very classified and could aid the enemy.
Hope you and your friend don't get into any trouble.

Glad he's o.k. though, but why overload a HumV when there are armored carriers made for the job?
