I'm sure its good but it took a few minutes to figure out Quick Time 7 is required. NG on my ancient ME program.

thx anyway. It sure as hell looks interesting.

I have followed Russo's efforts over the years...the article Pat linked is an excellent summation of Russo's position on taxation.

I don't subscribe to all his goals, but I hope some form of honest debate on taxes results from his efforts.

I'm certainly no fan of taxes - especially since, as a business owner, I am subject to double taxation on all revenue. But for all those who say that the government has no law requiring us to pay an income tax, I have to ask: Isn't that covered under the 16th amendment and under CFR 26 ?

I am not always a fan of Wikipedia, but in this case the information is well stated and details the controvery surrounding the 16th Amendment.

Okay... what I come away with after reading that is that the 16th did not create the power to tax, but only clarified that power. The power to tax lay in the constitution itself, Article I, Section 8, Clause 1.

And an exercise of that power is 26CFR.

With all respect, because the folks who will get my money interpreted things their way (shocking), doesn't mean they understood the framers intent.

I'll pay for ALL of the provisions in Article I, Section 8, of the Constitution, except: "General Welfare"

U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 8
Article 1 - The Legislative Branch
Section 8 - Powers of Congress

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

I'd like a verifiable source confirming that remark was made by Bush. The person who started it was some 'journalist' by the name of Doug Thompson. Searches on it only show up on numerous moonbat lefty blogs, so I seriously doubt that it's accurate.

Obviously the Constitution allowed taxes in this country. The 16th Amendment simply established a new tax on income. It is quite a ridiculous and unfair way to collect revenue as it tends to punish folks for being successful and/or hard work. It was sold as a temporary measure...but as we know, once someone (gvt included) get their hand in your pocket...you cannot ever get them to take it our of their own free will.

Not according to the Supreme court in the mentioned cases. The SCOTUS ruled that the 16th Amendment did NOT establish any new taxing power.

Payroll deductions were temporary as well, now they arrest you if you try to stop them, yet it's perfectely legal to file to stop the deductions.
