insanity rains [sic]: checking out a bug tomorrow

Found what appears to be a fairly clean and original '67 bug. Gonna go take a look. The last thing I need is another car, but what are you gonna do? The same color as my first one too...

Clearly beyond the bounds of rational discourse...you are absolved of all guilt. Go forth and VW

Well, go look at it if you feel you must. But when you sit down in it...whatever you do...don't push the button.

Do you like drag racing?
IMO that is the only thing a bug does well, and not in stock form.
BTW I had a 65 bug many moons ago, sold it buy a 914.
Never concidered going back for even a split second ( to the VW, I did consider going back to a 914 for a split second but not much longer than that).

guy called last night...someone came over and snapped it up. I figured as much as it seemed to be a very original car complete with a bunch of original paperwork, etc. Oh well, I don't have the space, and I'd rather spend the money on the race car. But festive to think about for a bit...

This is not insanity but something completely cool. I have a classic bug on my wish list. Hugh R told me a little about the Nascar Herbie that was built up for the movie, I believe he said the car was putting out 200HP.

I picked up another bug project yesterday. Doesn't run, but it has minimal rust:

I h ad a friend many moons ago that owned a Porsche Super 90. It was wrecked when a woman tore through an intersection, my friend avoided her and wound up upside down in a ditch (not badly hurt, but the car was toast).

He installed the engine in a 1968 bug, upgraded the brakes. That car was a hoot to drive. Not really fast by today's standards, but pulled really strong.

Nothin' wrong with a good beetle. Be careful not to fall down the slippery slope of "With just a little work, it could handle like an early 911." It's true, but expensive.

you obviously never drove a Super Beetle, mine was sweet handling car, even with the skinny bicycle tires. Dimensions were almost the same as a 914, weight, track, wheelbase. Drove and even sorta smelled like a 914 or 911, only with woefully inadequate power.

I always liked bugs, could 10 million people be that wrong?

'67 is a good year. My first car in fact. Last of the 'early' look, first year of 12 volt, smooth deck lid. Some one year only parts, often for more $$$, but a great, EASY car to have

The guy down the road had his bug out by the road with a for sale sign in it a couple of weeks back. I stopped and looked, no price, year etc-just FOR SALE. The rear lights looked like the ones on the 356's but at a different angle. Anyone know what years VW did this? The guy put the car back in the garage the next day. I have not seen him out in his yard when I drive by, or I would stop and talk to him.
