Anchors into plaster walls
How do you get the anchors into a plaster wall so you can screw something in them?
Holes made, should be a snug fit, but they won't go in......hammering lightly is bending the anchor. |

You need to either slightly increase the diameter of the holes you drilled, or drill them deeper. You should be able to push them most of the way in with your finger, then tap them home.

If you're using a drywall anchor, it may not work since plaster is much harder than drywall. Some drywall anchors are designed to cut into or displace the drywall as they're driven in. Instead use either old fashioned molly/toggle bolts (or the newer plastic versions) or use plastic expansion anchors designed for masonry or solid walls.

I dunno what kind of anchor this is (women, huh LOL) it's white.....but what RM512 said worked. Needed to be bigger, but also needed to be deeper.
I had a feeling it needed to be bigger, but I wasn't sure how much bigger, other details.......etc. I just wanted to be sure how to do it....never did one before and I get scared when making holes....once it's there....... Last edited by cool_chick; 07-02-2006 at 08:18 AM.. |
