Missile-Defense System Passes Test In New Mexico

The military successfully tested a developmental weapons system designed to shoot down enemy missiles as they near their targets, the Missile Defense Agency said. This was the third successful test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) since November, the agency said.

The test at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., involved detecting an incoming Hera missile just inside the Earth's atmosphere and firing a projectile that intercepts and destroys the missile.

THAAD is a ground-based system that targets short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in the last minute or so of their flights. It is part of a missile shield being developed to defend against all types of ballistic missiles in all phases of their flights

We were up flying early, saw the contrails heading straight up and wondered what it was. Found out when we landed and turned on CNN.

There are a lot of programs going on that us mere mortals do not know about, but weenie will deny their existance.

M.D. Holloway 07-14-2006 09:46 AM

Weenie is actually part of the program to spread the word that they do not exist which makes us believe that they do even more.

Weenie is a plain and simple Bush hater. No logic needed.

Rove's fingerprints all over it. I know a Rove'ian conspiracy when I see it.

Never would have happened if the RATs had their way. Does anybody else remember the ***** talking coming from the Democrats and their media monopoly when Ray-Gun proposed SDI?...I am embarassed that we even have a Democrat party, they humiliate us regularly.

Page-4?...Not too shabby, but something surely the media will not trumpet...They have an enemy to encourage, a war to lose and their party to get elected.

It was on the radio. When it came on, my wife turned to my daughter and told her that I had worked on that. She thought that was cool.

But lest we get carried away with the news, this is not an operational weapon, it is in test phase.

"Specific test objectives included demonstrating the integration of the radar, launcher, fire control and communications and interceptor operations; demonstrating kill vehicle control in response to in-flight uplinks; and target acquisition and tracking by the interceptorís seeker.
The system exceeded its objectives on the test by intercepting the Hera unitary target.

THAAD is designed to defend U.S. troops, allied forces, population centers and critical infrastructure against short- to intermediate range ballistic missiles. THAAD comprises a fire control and communications system, interceptors, launchers and a radar. The THAAD interceptor uses hit-to-kill technology to destroy targets, and is the only weapon system that engages threat ballistic missiles at both endo- and exo-atmospheric altitudes. "

And as I said before, it is nigh impossible to develop anti-missile or anti-rentry body weapons without the public knowing, as evidenced by some of the comments above. Also, we don't hold the information back. "Two more test flights are scheduled to occur at WSMR before THAAD testing moves to Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii. "

Mul, the SDI stuff was premature and fanciful. The criticsm was valid. You are not old enough nor in the business to know that.

actually Reagan, CIA Bill Casey, and the RC Pope were in kahoots to bring down the USSR. The SDI rhetoric spurned a large expensive USSR program that helped bring down the USSR and free Poland.

Perhaps some reading lessons are in order.

The test in question is against a SCUD-like weapon.

IOW, a Patriot replacement missile defense.

A SCUD is not an ICBM. The next anti-ICBM missile defense test is due in November.

Can't you guys get any of your facts right?

So was the harnessing of electricity at one time. If you were rational you would be realizing how short-sightedness may have set us back 25 years, and how the Democrats and their world-wide friends (America's enemies) were self-interestedly wrong.

alas

edit: typo

wrong about which SDI idea?

From the article:

SDI as Regan envisoned it, may be near impossible, but not impossible. To defend against a few or a dozen icbms is not only possible but quite practical. Korea or Iran may or may not set ONE of their nukes off in our country, but if they did, their country would cease to exist. We are likely to be able to defend against one or several of their nukes if they sent them our way via a missile. But bottom line, their country will cease to exist. To think we would not respond in such a way is to deny human kind and its response to such threats over the millenia. We would respond, we would wipe out millions of people. Either way we win. THe preferred way, they back down and it never happens or the non preferred way, they do not back down, we still win. Either way they lose, big time, permanently.

What they need to understand is that we are number one, because we are the most savage, agressive, people on the planet. We try to put on a nice face, but bottom line, we are savages.

2 men can carry one of those suitcase atomic bombs.

charleskieffner 07-16-2006 06:05 AM

in the atomic weapons museum(albuq, new mex) there is a back pack nuke called the DAVEY CROCKETT. it is designed for a special forces guy to HALO jump out of plane, land, walk to target(dam, bridge etc) and place unit there. hit timer and run like a MO-FO!
