I was a spoiled hippy kid before I actually had to go out and face the real world.

I graduated from college and moved into my first apartment with a TV stand, some clothes, and $12,000 in student loans. I went to my last Phish concert in 2000 a few months later. Strangely I couldn't stand the crowd at the concerts any more. I used to think they were poor hippy kids trying to get in touch with nature and fight the "man". Now I saw them as self-absorbed drug addicts living off of their parents and student loans headed mostly in a direction that wouldn't contributed meaningfully to society.

I'd love to see Widespread Panic if it wasn't for the crowds that follow them around. Well, then again without Michael Houser maybe it wouldn't even be worth it...

My problem these days (and has been for the last 19 years) is that *no one* comes anywhere near north Alabama. Every decent concert is at least a 2 hour drive away.

yes - the legendary Rathskellar in Kenmore Sq...I got to play there a few times before it closed. It was the CBGB's/Max's Kansas City of the boston scene in the 70s-early 90s.
