The Best Day of Golf EVER!

First time playing a round with our Son – by far it was the best and most enjoyable round I have ever played. He has gone to the range with me in the past and we have done the putt putt thing but today was the real deal. He did great. Just him and me. Most of the par 3s he got on in 2. He drives about 75 to 120 yards pin straight. He keeps his front foot out – I haven’t corrected him on it because it seems to work for him. His short game needs some work (mostly 4 or 5 putting) and he seems to have mastered the foot wedge!. Only once did he show frustration but he ended up laughing it off. I think he liked driving the cart the most. I love this kid!

2nd hit...

watching it fly...

Very cool! I was fortunate enough to have a golf nut dad, and was introduced to the game at a similiar age. I would get him a 1 hour session with a teaching pro. Give you guys some good analysis and some drills to work on at the range. For a guage of what a good introduction at an early age will do, for the last 10 years or so I have played an average of once or twice a year, and usually shoot in the low 80's and ocassionally break 80.

And exactly WHAT is WRONG with moving Panzer Divisions around N Africa? When Winston Churchill was a boy he used to play with toy soldiers, and look what he accomplished.

Playing music and drawing pictures are both artistic endevors aren't they.

Lube,

I wouldn't correct his leading foot being turned out a bit, actually that is the correct way to do it according to the current gurus, it helps you turn the hips out of the way faster on the downswing. I used to setup with my feet straight (i.e. perpendicular to the target line) and the first thing my instructor did was turn my front foot out about 30 degrees and my back foot out about 10 degrees.

My son goes to the putting green with me sometimes, he hasn't graduated up to hitting the ball full swing yet, he's only 3 though. Can't wait till he can go out and play golf with me.

Good times.

I think the old Hogan book suggests doing this (as Rick has said to clear the hips). All you have to do is make sure his stance is even to a little closed and he'll have a draw.

nothing wrong with it at all. In fact, I think some foreign countries are in big trouble in about 20 years.

Congrats, it's a day you will both always remember....that's the most important thing.

Golf is a sport for all ages (thanks to handicapping) and you still will have a chance to whip him when you are 80.

I took my son out when he was 9 for the first time. The stipulation was that when he could consistantly hit the ball 150 yds he could go. Little bugger made par on the first golf hole he ever played and made 2 more in the next 8. Both he and I will never forget that day.

Sounds great,
Can't wait for my 3yr old to get a little older and get him out on the course.

I think this guy had a pretty good day of golf too.

Looks to me like Lube is doing it right. I am very much looking forward to my first round with my daughter for the same reasons. Although I think banging the beer-wench may not send the right "message" to my girl.

On the other hand, I was at the range the other day and had the displeasure of being next to a guy and his 8 yo son. Dad was getting frustrated at his own inability to hit the ball and his son was not following dad's instructions EXACTLY on how to hit the ball. Dad proceded to yell at the kid and tell him how stupid he was and how he does not listen. Went on for at least 10 minutes and I figured it was not worth a trip to jail or the hospital for dad or I so I picked up my basket and left.
