group hug
with her ok, maybe solo hug with her oh crap, my g/f might not appreciate that ok, group hug, her and my g/f now we're cookin' with gas... |
Now, when are the two of you going to a tittie bar for a beer or three?
|
You both seem like nice guys and both have a point. I imagine it is just the hard work and heat are causing the tempers to flare, Since you both are enthusiasts, work nearby doing related work, it is silly for your relationship not to be mutually beneficial. Why don't both of you *******s just be mad at me instead. I am used to it and the distance protects me. You both suck!!!!

FWIW Kev...yeah, I'd give you the Irish Green info for free. Today's water based paints come out too dark when done by the code...

Kev, do you have a mixer, or is all your paint sent to you by color?
We have both, and for the colors we dont have a formula for, the paint store will send it over, (with the formula). If it doesnt match, they will keep sending gallons over until it does, (WITH the formula) for no extra charge. If we paint a car and the owner wants the formula, no problem, its his. But in your case, I dont know if I would have charged them or simply asked for something"free" another day. ~~Ask me about the 4 gallons of WRONG color paint we got for a 07 RangeRover HSE last week!! They finally came by took a piece off the car, and after several phone call to Siekens, we got the right color! (it was some kind of special order Rimini Red ) |

I don't mix any paint in house. Everything I shoot (no matter how much or little) is ordered from the paint store. In several years of buying from this one specific store I have only had a couple colors that were unacceptable and only once was it a full gallon. If I take them a part they will "put the gun on it" (meaning they use a photospectronometer to get the closest formula on file) and then I have to fine tune if needed.
In defense of the paint store: most older colors are no longer in the data base. This is where the trouble comes into play. Even if they had the formula it's for materials that are no longer available and as it's been pointed out before in this thread, the color tones have changed over the years. Todays toners are not the same as those from back in the day. Thats why sometimes it's a real effort to re-create a color accurately. The biggest color variation that comes to mind is Viper/Kelly green. Ever see a parking lot full of Viper Green cars? I'd bet you'd find ten different colors that were "Viper Green". |
I have 2 issues of my own.
#1 is that I'm bringing a gas lid cover to the paint shop to match for a gold metalic Imron shoot of my valence, bumper, and hood. I have the stock Sikkens 443 #'s but figured I may have to do a sample or two. Does that all make sense? I'm a weekend warrior. #2 is that I received a wet sample from a 1962 356 consistent concurs winner in Ruby Red. The owner told me the car could have been shot in one of 3 plants which means one of 3 different Ruby Reds. I trusted his words as he's a exec at a NYC auto publisher Fitabildi Hatchetti something. Anyway he did many many samples not just to match but to shoot his ground up restro the most dynamite Ruby Red of all 3 flavors. I sent the wet sample to Sherwin-Williams labs for a match. I was on the phone a few times with the lab and they treated me super great. They really did the best possible for sure. It was S-W because the FD rig builder dealt with S-W. Anyway my town has the only 11T FD pumper in the whole US painted Porsche Ruby Red. I've shot my eng shroud etc with it as I have the greatest Porsche Ruby Red formula possible. What's the formula worth? http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153027934.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153027953.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153027977.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1153028009.jpg |
Sweeeeet, Ron. All three!

Had my 911 backdated at Patrick Motorsports here in Phoenix. Expensive but their work is second only to Porsche IMHO. Jim bends over backwards to make sure that its done right (and it is) but you pay for it.
When he was getting ready to spray the trunk area after he grafted a '72 nose on the car he asked me what the formula was on the paint. I had no idea as the car had been painted in Dallas years ago. The painter was a nice guy but after spraying the car and getting it putting it about 95% together he got busted for meth possession and thrown in jail. I never found out what kind of paint he used nor the codes for it. When Patrick was finished with my car he gave me the old can of paint he had used. On the label is the paint code and he was very pointed in telling me that when I had the car painted (we did not do the front fenders or hood which are still in primer) that I needed to show whoever did the job this information so that it would match. |
It's hot out there?
This is subtle hijack. |

You know how you always wish for a mechanical somewhere nice?
Somewhere in Savannah Georgia some poor SOB A&P is packing for the red-eye to Athens via Atlanta and Frankfurt with an anti-skid box in his luggage. The island of Mikonos has me amd my pax for 2 more days while that box (the closest one in the entire world) wings it way to me. The failed Anti-Skid computer made my 4600' runway requirement jump to over 9600'. Unfortunately the runway here ends on a cliff 6200' down the road. Even leaving 3 tons of fuel here and only barely making Athens still required 7000'. Kev. The entire town here is painted a sky-turquoise blue. What would it take to match that color in a skin paint? The girls in the next door establishment to you could have a Greek night with Ouzo shooters and sky-blue hooters. Of course, Greek night might take on an entirely different connotation there in North Hollywood. Hey, that rhymes. Ouzo shoters and sky-blue hooters. This ought to get things right back on track. |

if you're on that island w/some free time let me know. My oldie bud runs parties on that island as a business. He knows where action is full time. if so hit profile below this box and e-mail me. |
I'll put in my .2 cents regarding similar "sharing" issues.
I build electric guitar parts. For a long time, it was a struggle to make any real progres in regards to expanding my business and strengthening my position. Eventually, I started sharing bits of information with some of the other smaller companies...and they sharted to share back. The relationships between competitors and myself started tio strenghten... And this isn't only with the small companies, but with one of the largest, as well. Currently, I'm helping them find a source for a circuit board to repair one of thier old machines that broke down...and we've been discussing and plotting how to defeat a certain unfair trademark for a few years.... Nowadays, when I find a good source for something that is hard to find, or otherwise expensive, I am immediately on the phone with several of my competitors to let them know. We are always willing to share information back and forth...parts suppliers...techniques on doing certain things...you name it. If I run out of somthing, I need only to call one of them, and if they have it, they'll send it out to me quickly. I repay the kindness. This method has worked very well for all parties involved. My business had grown by about 1000% in the past four years. We pool our resources to buy large quanities, and save money overall by paying less $ for each peice. If I can't do a certain job, I'll send it to one of the others...and likewise, they'll send something to me. I often give the others high praise on guitar forums, and they do the same. A year or so ago, one of the TV annoucers for NASCAR coined a very good term for this: "Co-opetition" It works well. |
Joe;
Have been staying pretty close to the hotel pool, and one family restaurant. What kind of parties does he run? The most popular party bar here is 'The RamRod Club'. Mykonos has changed a litttle since I was here last. Everyone here is really friendly. Just like Key West until I figured out why. |
Michael,
You rigged this I know! Airplanes are supposed to break in Teterhole, not nice places like Greece! A real pilot does not need Anti-Skid or worry about BFL! :) Have a good time there! I love Greece and Greek food... Ron, Have not flown into JFK for years but if I do you will be the first to know! Thanks, Joe A |
