OMG, San Diego is beautiful!
Have never really spent any quality time here until now. The weather is ideal, IMO. I'm into cycling and this town has miles and miles of smooth cycling paths and roads. People seem really friendly and the vistas are to die for. I'm going to look into RE prices. I bet they exceed NorCal prices. I was planning on retiring up north like Eureka, CA. May have to rethink that now if condos here are still affordable.

It is a great location, but Nostatic is right. It's become a little L.A. in the last 30 years. My vote would be to buy a nice, cheaper place to live elsewhere & come here on vacations sometimes. There are lots of other places that have good cycling, and you don't go to the beach every day.

Been working out of Carlsbad this week, flying shuttles to Vegas and back. Used to live in San Diego back in the 80's and like Todd said it was a lot nicer and no where so full.
Back there this afternoon the driving back home. Its a nice place to visit but not my cup of tea... Go out on Coronado and spend some time, as well as up the coast. Lots of nice places there but unfortunately unless you bought land years ago its way overpriced for most of us... Joe A

I first went to San Diego in 90 and stayed for 3 years courtesy of the Navy. Absolutely beautiful!! Spent the majority of time in Pacific Beach and North County.
Good times!

You should look into Ventura County north of LA. And I mean Ventura near the coast, not Simi Valley!!

Ventura's very nice. I lived there back when it was known as "Bakersfield By The Sea". It's changed, like everywhere else. A bit more hip and happenin'. I'd live there if my commute wouldn't be so far.

I was stationed in San Diego from '82 - '91 with a one-year stint in Okinawa and 7 months in Saudi Arabia (Desert Shield/Storm). I can't believe how much the area has changed and grown! There used to be strawberry fields and lemon/orange/avocado trees everywhere, now it's condos and "Poltergeist" looking homes. We went back to visit a few years ago and I barely recognized the place, but it is still prettier than MI!!

We spent the day bicycling on Coronado Island. Yow, RE is REALLY expensive here. OK, retiring in San Diego is out.

San Diego was perfact in the early 70's. Out in ElCajon you could still go out your back door and shoot your gun. Nothing like it today. Still nice, but LA nice, not SD nice.

The flying is complete so I can talk a bit about it now. We were flying the owner of the Phoenix Suns to an NBA meeting. He values his time at home so we brought him back and forth as needed. When you are this high up the food chain you own your own airline! It is a private jet and thats about all I can say about it. ![]() Joe A

It is hard to believe how much more crowded, expensive and ugly this part of the world is getting. The change from 25 years ago seem like something that would take a century to mess up that badly.
I used to drive between L.A. and LaJolla on a regular basis in the '80s, and vacation in LJ before that. ('70s). Up until the mid/late '80s, there was open space between OC and SD. Now it is completely filled in w/ concrete and malls. Growth is such an ugly thing when it occurs where it is not needed, and never seems to occur where it is needed. |

speeder, that stretch isn't entirely covered with concrete...yet. Are you forgeting the 20 mile stretch called Camp Pendleton?
I've watched Orange County change dramatically since my childhood. South county, where I live now, was mostly ranch land when I was a kid. It's all suburbs now. It makes me sick to my stomach when I think about it.
