Yes, very impressive and it is probably the best example in the world of a hotrod vette... but I've had a boner for an original Sting Ray since I've old enough to fantasize. Should have bought one 25 years ago. Ironicaly, the longer I wait to buy one, the more I can't afford one and now most likely will never own one. Getting back on topic.... I'm sure Overhaulin gets a lot of input from family and friends before they take on any car. There's no doubt some kind of release form too from liability in case things go bad. |

There were some pending lawsuits RE: Overhaulin -
A while back, they were seen driving the Oldsmobile back, and during filming it popped a hose - Overheated and on film there's footage of them driving the car still. After the car was returned, it was incomplete and also had blown head gaskets and the owners attempted to sue the show for damages. rjp

I really like and admire the work that Foose does.
The "Sick Fish" that he did for Joe Rogan was incredible, and I would take that car ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Same goes for any of the cars he did for the Riddler, or any of them on the Rides show. I really think that he does, what he does, very well. Would I get him to do anything to my p-car? Not a hope in hell. Well, other than make a drawing of it, because damn, he can draw! If I had an old charger, mustang, super-bird, etc., would I like him to work on it? HELL YES. His work is, for the most part, very subtle, and done with extreme craftsmanship. As to the Overhaulin' stuff, the amount of time and effort that they put into bodywork, paint, upholstery, etc., alone is worth it, IMO. Don't like the wheels or stereo? Swap them. But at least you've got (it seems, from what I can tell) a nice body, excellent upholstery, and a pretty solid powertrain and engine. After all, a lot of the resto parts companies seem to throw just a crap-load of new parts at that show, including (in a lot of cases) new crate motors, etc. Of course, **** happens, and they get it done in a week, so there are bound to be some issues that pop up, but overall, I think I could deal with those and still be very, very happy with the results. $0.02 |

They do seem to take into account what the owner wants/would do. Some of the finished products are way out there, some are tweeked a little. I could go for the tweeked just a little, staying true to the original.

I like watching the Overhaulin' show but I'm not sure if I'd want them to do my car over. From the show it looks like they do some high quality work.
It would depend if they were Overhaulin' an original 442 or some clapped out Cutlass parked out behind my house. A pimped out 442 probably isn't worth as much as an original car. When Overhaulin' did a 442 they said the original engine was rebuilt to keep the numbers matching. If you have an Overhaulin' type of car I think it's important to make sure your "insider" knows exactly what you want done to the car. As far as Porsches go.... If they would take this ![]() And send it to Porsche Doc to make it into this.... ![]() I'd be OK with that.

I wonder if they are still part of the "Foose family"?

Not at all. Chip Foose and his crew do outstanding work. I am taking the kids to the Peterson Automotive Museum tomorrow. Several of Foose's cars are on display. Good times!

The cars looked pretty good after they're done with them (on TV). Looks are subjective and I'd think most if not all the owners/cars they've chosen were more than happy to end up with an almost fully restored vehicle with a fair amount of go fast goodies.
However, I've wondered about the paint jobs on these cars. I'm not up to speed on modern paint formulas, but the data in my old brain cells tells me primer, sealer and paint (base and clear coats w/X layers) take X days/weeks to completely dry before color sanding and buffing. What's the latest info on that? Is Overhaulin' cheating on the final finish when they paint and polish within 24 hours? How come many Porsche owners have to wait months, sometimes years, to get their car back from the paint shop? :-) The show that tests my patience for mankind is Unique Whips. Talk about bling and a cast of suspect characters, and customers with more money than taste. If I see another Escalade being chromed and DVD'd........ End of rant. Sherwood |
