when i was on the dragon, it was impressed upon me that the most important thing was to keep to your own side of the road.

Cool pic, great article.

I do not see a problem with his driving in the pic. If he can see far enough ahead to know he had a clear road than he is fine. If this was one of those 2nd gear 180 degree switchbacks then yes he is driving dangerous.

I wish he had not stated his speed in the article and I wish he had skipped the part about racing the bikes.
More fuel for the local police in my opinion.

*edit - I just realized he is so far on the wrong side of the road I thought he was on the correct side and touching the line. The whole spirit of the road is to drive the road not find the fast line through the turn a la road course race track.

I agree with all of the above he is the reason the police patrol that road so much.

unfortunately this happens alot, bikes and cars alike. and yes I had to look at the pic twice myself to make sure my criticism was warranted.

I do it frequently, albeit I am generally looking down the road and totally confident that there is no chance of oncoming...there are some sections of road that allow for 99% security in this type of maneuver...There is a good chance this guy is being either spotted or has a clear view of the oncoming road.

I agree. You cannot make an informed opinion on his saftey from this picture alone. Many times this is a perfectly safe procedure.

Safety aside, its a dumb picture. It's kinda like illustrating one's track prowress with a picture of your car blasting off track to find a quicker way though a chicane...

From what I have been told by those who drive the Dragon a lot and know the road well. (Procon, Killboy, etc..) The SPIRIT of the road is to drive your lane as fast as possible. No one really wants to see anyone driving over the double yellow no matter how safe it may seem, its just not in the spirit of the road. If you want to hit turn in points apexs and exit points then go to a race track. If you want to hoot an hollar on a really fun road then come out to the Dragon.

This guys article is really misleading. Many go out there only to drive to road not race others and prove they are king of the Dragon. That is just asking for trouble from either the police or an accident.

Sarcasm on

You totally missed the point... this is Men's journal for Manly Men who don't shave or use deodorant and eat red raw meat and don't care if the go over the double yellow and kill themselves or some mamby pamby soccer mom in a mini van full of children because they get in the way of Men doing what Men have to do.

But seriously,
The car in that picture could (literally) be death to an oncoming motorcyclist.

After my smarta$$ post I decided to look at the article, it is a little corny but not too bad. Worst part is the picture of the car over the line.

The driver is almost fully crossed over a double yellow line into the on coming traffic lane. How can this be accepted as safe or sane driving?

If you drive so fast that you canot maintain your lane discipline then you are going too fast and you need to slow down before you kill someone.
