Taking Sides
Meddlesome US Foreign Policy.
Yes, that would be the US. We meddled in Europe, Asia, and Latin America all through the last century. We're making a pretty good run at the Middle East now. Should we abandon the rest of the world? 1. The world and the US would be a better place if we would mind our own business. Other countries' wars, famines, pestilence, injustices (by American standards) are not our concern. We have enough troubles here; leave the ME alone. 2. As self appointed 'leaders of the free world', the whole world IS our responsibility. Events in far away places affect us, and the world has generally benefitted from our meddling over the last 100 years. Do what is necesary to ensure stability in the ME.

Our Government should guard our borders, deliver the mail, and stay the hell out of everything else. Sounds damned tempting, doesn't it? Alas, the real world doesn't work that way...We "meddled" in the affairs of Germany, France, and England back in the 1940's....then there was the time that the French "meddled", or our nation would have not become one. Other examples abound.... You know, it would be great if we could mind our own business....BUT....

I voted neither yes nor no.
We should get involved when it is in our best interest to do so. Everyone else does the same...and other countries are particularly good at guilting us into or out of action. Screw everyone else.

Legion, good point. I have amended to post to ask the question as it currently concerns the Middle East. That's what I meant.

some matters are justified. like the Gulf War. it ought to be a case by case basis.
Iraq is a tragic joke. |

America has no permanent allies, only permanent interests.
Ditto every other country on the planet. I'm not sure how to answer your poll, if I had an answer to provide. You have 2 statements to respond to, and yes/no as options. JP

"We have a few real allies"
Wait. There will be a totally different lineup in the future!!! In WW I, Japan was on "our side". IN ww II, China was an ally of the "west". After WW I, GB was allegedly contemplating a sea war with the US to assert their naval domination of the world. You never know who your real friends or real enemies are. The cast of characters and their alliances keep changing, for the reason that Legion points out which is self interest.
