14 year old in a shotgun wedding....what's the minimum age for ADIC eligibilty?

That's always been an oddity here, and elsewhere I think. You could get married here at 14, but could not consent to extramarital sex until at least 16 (I think that's the age that's going to change).

Not really "lowering" -- they just passed a law that has the provision that if a girl deceives a man about her age, the man might not be prosecuted; it is a "mistake of age" provision in the new law.

I think some of the "rape advocate" groups are blowing the issue out of proportion trying to make it sound like South Carolina has lowered the age of consent to 14, which simply is not the case.

That's a little misleading. The kid was 22, and the girl was 14. The girl, by the way, is mentally handicapped. He had sex with her, got her pregnant, then the parents decided they should get married in Kansas. He wasn't charged with having sex with his wife, he was charged with having sex with a 14-year-old.

Actually, I just recently learned that the age of consent in Nebraska is 16 after a 59-year-old high school teacher had sex with a 16-year-old. They fired the teacher, but couldn't charge him with anything, since the girl said it was consentual.

My boss' noisy neighbor always told them how they were raising their daughter wrong and giving all kinds of unwant suggestions. Then the neighbor's 14yo twin girls were caught in hotel room with 3 army sargents!!!!!!!!!! The neighbor apologized for the years of stupid advice, but holy crap, how out of touch can a parent be to miss this. My boss says when the parents are out of town now, the girls are 18, car after car comes and goes at their house. The only problem is, the girls are never around when I go to visit :D
