Help... Looking for Computer Parts
Looking for a cheap (would be better if it was free) laptop hard drive (For IBM ThinkPad 600E). I am piecing one together to help a neighbors kid out. I have everything ready except a drive. Don't really care about drive capacity as will be used mainly for school work. PM if you have something I could use. Thanks

I may have an 800mb one if nothing else comes thru. If it is a really older IBM (486 class) I have an extra 8mb RAM card that is actually a pcmcia card.

Thanks for checking - It is a model 2645 which has at least a P2 300 (up to 400)mhz chip in it. I had a 20 gig drive I was going to put in it but after starting the O/S install I remembered why it was on the shelf. Previous owner had tossed the pc it was in against the wall and it suffered a major head crash.
Again thanks

In that case, I'd think that either a local used parts store or fleabay would be your best bet...

Like I said I don't really care about the size as long as it can hold the o/s and a little wiggle room for programs. It is a freebie for him so he isn't being picky.
Cheapest drive I have found local was $35 for a 4 gig drive and about the same on fleabay. With fleabay who knows what you are going to get. Again thought I would ask before getting too deep in a search Thanks

Got a CDROM drive in it? You could just run Ubuntu (or Knoppix or whatever) off CD only... that and a 1gb flash drive for settings, etc.

I own a few Thinkpads, including an 850Mhz 600X and a 600E parts machine. IIRC, I've got a 32GB drive in the parts machine that just sitting there, though I don't have the caddy for it (used it to replace the one missing from my kid brother's 600E). If you'd like the 32GB drive, PM me your address tonight and I'll post it tomorrow, no charge.
