Looks like they changed their agreement... just a bit!
"…by submitting the User Submissions to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the YouTube Website and YouTube's (and its successor's) business… in any media formats and through any media channels." |

Well, this is interesting considering the fact that a lot of copyrighted material is submitted. How's that supposed to work?

This reminds me of a certain popular Porsche mailing list (preceeding Pelican) that folded when the owner tried to take ownership of everything that was submitted.

I read in the paper that youtube was trying to figure out how they're going to make money off the their site. They're probably doing this so they can sell compilations of the submitted videos. Just a thought.

That conflicts with a creative commons non-commercial share-alike mark that I use, so I guess none of my content on youtube.
They are a transitional object anyway... |

my theory is that video-centric site will be replace by content/context specific sites that add video to the mix. Right now video is "special" but at some point in the near future it will be just another media type (like images, sounds/music, etc).

Who pays for the bandwidth, though?
P2P technology will have to be adopted, rather than assaulted, by the media giants.

Anybody catch the WSJ article on YouTube last week? They're dealing with revenue-generating and intellectual property issues now - basically the founders are a couple of real sharp kids who never envisioned how this would take off - similar to the Shawn Fanning story.
