Toyota FJ

I nearly soiled myself today. Gawd this thing is great.

As with all cars, pictures online do not do this thing justice. It is AWEOME. Put my name on the list.

My wife is talking like she'd like one after her Mini- she's always liked Toyotas, and this one looks really cool. We're going to test drive one as soon as the local dealer gets a delivery. Pity about the gay colours- but the silver is cool. I think her having one and me having a targa would be a good combination. I'll post a full report when I test drive one- unless someone beats me to it!

Cheers,

Paul.

Put on a solid front end if they are serious about real off road.

FJ what??!! Not even close. Yet another car company attempting to capitalize on a great name from its past. Here is my '71. It's a rust bucket, rides like only a leaf-sprung short wheelbase rig can (like *****), is loud inside, cold in the winter and hot in the summer, but has gone an honest-to-gosh 500k+ miles. It's never been rolled, but it has been on its side, buried up to the windows, and completely underwater. Someday I'll cut all the rust out and weld new pieces in. It's been the hardiest rig I've ever owned; I just can't kill it, no matter how hard I try. I bet I could kill a new "FJ" with similar abuse, and in a lot less than 35 years and 500k miles.

Ford hit one out of the park with the mustang. The GTs still fly off the lots.

Jeff, that truck of yours is tough, but its missing the 'bling bling' of the new one.

I saw one of these on the street yesterday - and it looks great. Better than the picture. (Like the Cayman in this respect.) And they are very, very reasonable. My guess is these will sell like hotcakes.

I think fully loaded they run about $34k. Mid ranges in the high $20s. Of course most dealers are asking $5k over sticker.

F them. Toyota of Seattle is selling at sticker.....which is why there are already 30 people on their list to get one.

Yup. Oldie but a goodie; absolutely indestructible. Believe me, I have tried. Not the greatest rig to drive to the woods, but once I'm there I can't think of anything I would rather be in. Don't have to worry about the paint, a few extra dents add character, and there are no plastic parts to mangle. I am looking for a new right hand rear view mirror, though... the last trip left it out there somewhere...

This new Cruiser has some pretty big shoes to fill. Many of us mourned the passing of the FJ40 in the U.S. The larger, more luxurious Cruisers are great rigs, but they are in a whole different class than the old FJ40's. I couldn't imagine tying a dead deer to the roof, or throwing a bunch of dead ducks in the back, or taking that third run at that mud hole in an effort to get through, or... You get the idea. Anyway, I'm glad to see Toyota returning to its roots in a way.

Does anyone know if this one is actually made by Toyota? It's not common knowledge, but they did not manufacture the old FJ40's. They only marketed them. There is not a single part on mine that interchanges with anything Toyota ever made. The name escapes me right now, but the company that actually built them was kind of the Japanese equivelent of International Harvester. The Cruiser was the only road-going vehicle they made; the rest were all farm equipment, mining, construction, and the like.

Give me Higgins cools ride any day of the week. The front-end of the new FJ looks really nice. The rear end and wheels look absurd. If it does have quality Toyota parts under the skin, I'll give it the benefit of doubt with a B-.

Toyota Aztec.

I hope it looks a whole lot more than "better" up close because it loooks like a bag of smashed asses in the pics.

WTF is with car designers these days? Must be bring work home to their 5 yr olds. to do for them.

You can take a virtual tour at the Toyota website. The interior is very cool - the dash enamel is the some colour as the exterior etc. Very nice, I will drive one later today and report.
