Worst Smell Ever?

As told by Animal Planet - The smell goes beyond Vulture poop, Hippo poop and Petrel vomit (which is a natural defense mechanism) and some Millipedes from Africa will spray Hydrogen Sulfide as a defense.

According to Animal Plant, the worst smell is from the Skunk - It is not only stinky but the stuff has one compound that bonds to the proteins in hair and fur and another to the water in your sweat glands so it stays with you for days. Personally I don't think it is all that bad and it actually reminds me of summer as a kid.

The worst smelling concoction ever made is the combo of human waste and rotting flesh.

Reminds me of the day I called on a sewage plant in the morning then a rendering plant after lunch - yup, I was popular in the bar that night!

The paper mill stench on the 710 freeway in east L.A. is about the most wretched odor I've ever had the displeasure of smelling. A close second to the smell of decaying animals. Tijuana is a close third.

I had a roommate with an intestinal infection in college...

A skunk would have made the room smell better...

The town where I used to work had meat packing plant, three cattle and pig feedlots, and a rendering plant within a mile of each other. No matter which way the wind blew, that town stank. A gaggy, sickening smell. I haven't found anything worse.

For some reason... I don't dislike the smell of skunks at all. It reminds me of summer nighttime trips in the 944 with the saratoga off.

I see your rotting flesh and raise you one diaper pail. It's trash night, I just emptied it, he's had "digestive" issues for the past week. It's 100 degrees here.

I think I'm gonna put a sign on the can to just take the whole thing.

Not to hijack but I tried to throw away a garbage pail once. Took three tries to get the crew to understand that yes, the garbage pail is garbage, please take it.

Skunk also reminds me of summer, not that bad of a smell at all.

My high school had the drop down corrugated ceiling tiles, it was pretty easy to hid things up there if you needed to. Toward the end of my junior year someone had the brilliant idea of collecting some road kill in a plastic grocery bag and putting it on top of one of those tiles so you couldn't see it. Took the administration two weeks of June weather to figure out what the smell was and where it was coming from. That has to be the worst thing I’ve ever smelled.

Month old rotten milk or rotten eggs would both be a close second.

A Florida vulture after it has been hit by a car and has baked in the sun for about 5 hours. Makes a skunk smell pretty.

Rotting carcass smells the worst, but the skunk smell is definitely the most powerful.

DTT (dithiothreitol). Egad. Just open the cap in the lab and in seconds you're running for the exits. Spermidine is interesting too. Yes, it smells like you think it would...

those damn thiols and amines...

speaking of skunk, my dog got sprayed and a friend back east sent me a wash that really works. Dishsoap with some hydrogen peroxide. The sufactant helps solubilize the thiol compounds and the peroxide oxides them to sulfones which don't stick.

tomato juice is a crock...

Sorry dude, ya got me, I have no I idea what sperma anything should smell like. But the thiols do stink. years ago when I was doing work with low observable technology some of the product would go to the skunk works - I was told it was given that name because the polysulfides they used on the aircraft stunk like skunk.

the worst smells I have encountered:
-a 10 lb bag of spuds left rotting under the sink in the cabinet, in the heat for several months. Who would have guessed it would be so horrific?

-a paper mill/plant. Any of them. See Rumford Maine and Irving Massachusetts.

-skunk. one sprayed our dog - on the porch - 2 summers ago.
