Honda Pilot, Underbody rust item, what is it?

Fellas:

Hondapilot.org is not helping tonight (good group, informative etc just not as populated) so I was wondering if someone could look at this and tell me what it is?

It appears to be a heat shield of sorts around the catalytic converter (I think?). Can I pimp it back together for now? Can I pull that bottom part off?

Just what I need, 8 days away from 1500 mile vaction/beach trip, car is 2000 miles out of warranty and only 4 months left on lease. Drat.

Joe

That's just an illusion, Hondas are infallible.

But that is a heat shield around the cat of your (obviously) GM-made vehicle. And it won't hurt a thing to drive it that way.

thanks guys! AND fyi, I WAS changing oil...that's how I found it....

Wife took the pic as she loved my new coveralls! I get them at a used uniform store for ~15$ and then pitch them when they get too grimy. This is my best set ever..."Safety First" on right side and "Rudy" on the left!

Thanks again,

Joe

Which is faster, the pink or blue stroller?

Joe, check the warranty. Emission control equipment generally has a longer warranty period than the rest of the car. Might be able to get the dealer to fix it.

DAM* KURT! I was hoping after I got called out for not one, but TWO doll strollers this post would die! (seriously thanks, I will check the warranty)

Bryan, PRICELESS response, I actually laughed out loud. You can not IMAGINE how much doll crap we have around the house. It is seriously out of hand. What you can't see is that the pink one is a DOUBLE stroller so my 7 yr old can get 2 dolls in there.

Finally, for those dads out there...keep your girls away from "American Girl" dolls....I am serious. Stay far away.

I second this. My LR Disco's catcon and its shield disintegrated, and the dealer replaced everything from the manifold to the muffler under the emissions warranty, despite the fact that the standard warranty expired months earlier.

I believe the warranty for emissions related equipment (exhaust, etc.) is 80,000 mi for all cars sold in the US. Can't remember how many years. The dealers would rather you not konw about this.

Interesting call w/service department.
1. Emissions warranty is 8yr/80K
2. "That is a heat shield, that is not covered"
3. "We either pull them off or if salvageable we have these giant hose clamp looking things, we put them together and clamp it back together"
4. "Really is a nothing part, it is used to deflect heat but really unless you are parking on oily rags or dry paper or something it has no purpose".

Nice!
