Alright, I got ANOTHER freakin' ticket last weekend. My fault, regardless of the circumstances why.(A$$clown tailgating me and a pickup loaded with log furniture in front of me on a two lane country road.) I paid the ticket without fighting.
This is the second speeding ticket this year. I feel like a total a$$. I now have 4 points on my license. Yes, my wife was extremely pleased with me, especially since the reason I was on that road up north was because her Grandma passed away and I drove up to the service. She and the kids had gone up earlier in the week. I drive over 60,000 miles a year for my job, have no accidents, and am a very safe driver. I am reluctant to even get the 911 out now, though. I came home, washed it, and covered it. Do you guys have more than one ticket and do you feel like a target when driving? When I was younger, I recieved plenty of deserved tickets. After getting the 911. I went for 6 years without a ticket. I am almost at the point of selling it. Seriously. ![]()

I got a couple of tickets when I had my 911, but for the most part, I didn't feel like a target. I actually feel like a couple of times that I could have gotten tickets the cop didn't bother or gave me a warning. The main problem is not that I was a target, like I said, I think the contrary. The main problem is that the thing will go so fast so easily. I felt like it cruised quite happily at 90 which is guaranteed to get you a ticket. I never got one when going that fast. I always got them when I was going slower and was distracted/not paying attention.
I'd highly recommend getting a Valentine 1 radar detector. THey are amazing and won't get you out of all tickets, but will definitely help. If it keeps you from getting 2 tickets, it'll be more than paid for.

Thats unfortunate. In Sweden, if you keep within the 5-10 mph above the actual speed limit, they are usually kind of lenient. I always do during day light.
22 years of driving - not one speeding ticket. I have been lucky. At night, another game. Almost never any police out checking for speeding vehicles. Then again, we do not have your system with points on the license. If you drive more than 15 mph above limit (and get caught) your busted - license withdrawn for at least 3-6 months.

my 911 is a target. Even in my town the PD jerks me around as a game even thou they'd never tag me.
Best defense for me when out of town is to follow the fastest target that they want to tag like a SUV, ricer, or some broad speeding in the left lane while on her cell & doing her make-up. When I'm alone on the road and see the PD do a 360 to follow me I pull over asap. I also have confirmed reports that a Guards Red 911 in LA is dead meat.

It's not about your Porsche or your speed or public safety. It's about MONEY. I just consider tickets a "fun tax". I use a V1, try to avoid careless speeding, keep my eyes open and I still get a ticket every year or two. I don't like it. but I've grown to accept it.

Several years ago, when I had my '72, I got pulled over twice when the guys just wanted to look at the car. The first time, the guy said they were looking for one of that description that was reported stolen. The second time I was traveling within a U shaped formation of cars. The guy pulled me over & said I was speeding. When I pointed out I was surrounded by other cars, he told me he had a sports car too. Pissed me off.

I haven't gotten any tickets in my 911 or the M3 but have come close a few times. A few track days usually takes care of my desire to rip it on the highway. If you have been to the track and seen or been part of any mishaps, it doesn't take many experiences like that to get you to slow down on the open roads. At least on the track everyone is usually going in the same direction.
I am also an EMT in a remote part of upstate NY and have seen some accidents that are the result of high speed and tight curves, unfortunately, they do not go well together for the inexperienced average driver. It only takes a few scenes like that to get my attention. The really unfortunate thing is that they (accidents) happen so quickly and the effects can last a long time, all the result of a split second misjudgement. |

FD & EMS black boxes are a trend. Look if your rig has one. A pumper in Miami recently was doing 70mph in a 45 when a car ran a red light. The rig killed the guy. The rig has a black box.

Easy solution: track time. I don't have much desire to go fast on the road any more. And get a motorcycle...much greater feeling of speed and danger at street speeds...

Yesterday I was drivng through a smallish downtown area in a country town in S.C., cop was talking to a local, turned and waved at me as I drove by...
Thats something I often miss - back when people thought of cops as freindly, today, due to traffic cops, we tend to think of them as always being out to get us. (although granted, that could be in part to us not doing what we should either). I tend to wave at any cop that drives by when I see them.

I don't have a ticket in my 911 yet. However I did get a ticket in my other car and until at least December I have to drive the limit or close to so I can take traffic school to keep my points down.

+1,000 If those that "protect and serve" really gave two schits about making the roads safer, they'd go after unsafe vehicles (they don't probably 'cause they'd get sued for "ethnic profiling"), they'd go after overloaded work trucks with crap falling out the back (they don't probably 'cause they'd get sued for "ethnic profiling"), they'd go after people blasting through residential areas (not freeways), they'd go after overloaded trucks or people that plop their fat asses in the left lane and putt along at 50. A cop on patrol is a public servant deserving of our respect and thanks. A cop on the side of the road with a donut in one hand and a radar detector in the other is a patsy for the insurance industry and a tax collector by another name.

I could not agree more. Especially in CA, left lane people not doing the limit or on a cell phone drifting into other lanes upset me to no end. When I exceed the limit, it is in the fast lane, a road I know, especially not a residential or school zone and both my hands are on the wheel. Driving fast to me is serious, one screw up and your most likely dead. When I have to correct my driving to get around stupid people, slam the brakes because they are riding their brakes, or switch lanes to go around them, I become the one creating the harm because I could be aggrevated and I could be in a lane with an SUV doing 95mph that just won't see me and goodbye me and pileup here we come. Simple road rules: 1) Left Lane - FAST/PASSING LANE - If you can't keep up then get the flock out. 2) No cell phones without headsets. Hands on the wheel except when shifting. 3) Signal, please signal. If you cut someone off, say thanks with a simple hand wave. It won't take a minute and you put out the fire that you created by cutting them off in the first place. THIS ONE IS SUBJECTIVE: 4) Vehicles need mandatory road safety inspections. People that drop bumpers, lights, tires and other **** on the road do not belong. If you can't play the game properly, then don't play at all.

Even though every ticket I got was b.s., there were countless I should have gotten them.
But at least half a dozen other times I've saved others a ticket when they made mistakes(some may/should have been fatal). But daddy taught me to drive with sensibility- if something can pop out and be in the way--it will. And above all stay away from other drivers.. Driving school should inclue a skidpad and slalom course. Oh, and good "Legends of Grand Prix" times.

Thanks for the support, guys.
In the last incident, the trooper was coming in the other lane behind at least one car. I went around the log furniture pickup, mainly to get away from the clown on my a$$. The trooper said he clocked me at a speed I am sure I wasn't doing. He was very professional, even though I strongly disagreed with him on the speed. He did not write me for the full amount but still...... He also inquired about what I do for a living and that he was about my age and how nice my car was. I was polite and told him. He said he appreciated my honesty and demeanor and that is why he didn't get me for a more serious offense. I didn't fight the ticket as I saw no reason to go to court to look like an idiot as I WAS speeding. Yeah, he may not show and I would win but with my luck, he would bring his buddies in to see the dork in the 911 he ticketed without even having to try. And you guys are correct, I am sure there are times when I should have been pulled over and wasn't. I never exceed the limit in residential or inside city limits and I always wave at our small town officers , no matter which vehicle I am in. I have just seemed to pick the stupidest of times to pass other cars. I will not buy a radar detector, though. I know I would rely on it too much. Call it self preservation. ![]()

As to the original question, 4 points from two tickets? Is that different math or were they reckless equivalents? Last time I got a ticket it was speed = 1 point (70 in 55 zone).

I was told point-blank by a DA in court that I was guilty until proven innocent, and that my not-guilty plea earned me a place at the end of the line even though the ticketing officer was not present and I just had to wait around the whole day for a continuance.

I do 70 in a 55 every day on my way to work, and so does everybody else. And 80 in a 65. That is pretty much the speed limit in practice. Never seen anyone get ticketed for that, tanks God. But now that New-Jersey is trying to fix its financial deficit, this could change...
