VW bug split window smokes a ninja in the alps

Here's an interesting vid that I saw on the miata board today. A guy is driving a ninja in the alps, at about 2 min into the video he's passed by what I must assume is not a stock VW bug. It's a really old bug, I assume, it's back window is a tiny little split oval. The bike never catches back up to the bug. Now that's what I call a super beetle.

Actually, it would be an 1100cc

He probably installed an E-Ram and a Cool Collar.

what's crazy is that the bug was torching him on the straights...that shouldn't happen with a bike.

I wonder if it's running a 911 engine or something. Pretty cool either way.

Started with that unsafe pass by the Bug, but after that they looked like they stayed pretty safe, or relatively anyway.

Quite popular to put big, turbo type IV motors in those old bugs, but for him to run away from him like that makes me think it was something more, appeared to have enough power to smoke the tires when already rolling pretty fast.

I wondered about that towards the very end. I wasn't sure if it was exhaust or tire smoke.

Around 1978 there used to be a guy with a 327 chebby in an old bug. The engine was in front, he sat in the very back.
He could smoke the tires for darn near a half mile. Didn't handle that good though.

They had a racing series in Europe probably 20 years ago with tube frame Bugs. Many of them had Porsche engines. And they handled very very well. I had a highly modified Bug that no matter what I did just got squirrely above 125. I lowered it till it was almost touching in the front and it tracked straighter but still not real comfy.

Yes, I've seen several bugs that had chevy motors. 1 had the motor in the front like sammy2g mentioned, but most had the engine in the back. Funny thing is that the engine usually hangs out the back and has a cage around it.
