That last shot is a shocker, holding a penny now.

Took my kids to a hummingbird aviary near Tucson when they were little. They were terrified. Kept yelling "Bees daddy, bees!"
Aside from that, it was fascinating getting that close to them.

Since the breeding season began in February, must have been a Southern State. I'm still wondering what the soft inner lining of the nest is. Maybe cotton?

that nest was tight, very well built and seemed to widen as they grew bigger.
very cool.

Wow, that is incredible. We hang humingbird feeders all around our deck out back just so we can sit and watch these little guys. I've never had the priveledge of even seeing a nest, much less their young. I can see why now. They are so tiny, and so well concealed. Amazing.

actually, most hummers use spider webs for nest-building, and "decorate" with lichen.

Fantastic photos, Paul. Thanks for sharing!
I've always been crazy about those little birds, the house I just worked on had them buzzing all over the place. My parents have a HB feeder, (along with a dozen other feeders), at our cabin in Wisconsin and they are a constant presence in the yard.
