The chicken did not really cross the road because one side and the other are not really opposites in the first place.

It was originally Kelly/Viper Green. Biggest problem I can see is where will I ever get the formula for the paint? Oh I know! I bet my paint store will have it. I'll just give them a call.

pwd72s 08-04-2006 11:48 AM

I can't help but wonder how many more gallons of Viper Green have been sprayed than Porsche sprayed when building the cars...

Wait 2 years and pick it up for half of what went into it.

Wait, I don't see a sunroof, make that a third.

Thanks alot.

Despite the naysaying, I think I'll do just fine on this car, thank you. It's a '72E with Carrera suspension and original (type) drivetrain.

So Bill, how is the engine coming?

I wish you luck on the restore, I did a couple and never got out what I put into it. Maybe because they weren't Porsches.

Hey, Steve, the engine has been stalled -- now awaiting mechanic #3 (after #1 and #2 flaked out) to help time the cam, then everything will be done. I appreciate the yoke rental!

I've come out fine on cars that were apart or partial or basket cases. You can do it if you're careful. Remember, most of these cars need to come completely apart sooner or later in the restoration process. And the days of the sub-$3K 911 project car are gone. Now any complete project is $6K, even if it's not running. (I'm talking mainly '72/73 coupes) the upside is a market value in the high teens.

I think he was saying that the project car would cost 6K to start with. Up here it would cost me 5K to do the engine myself, about 10K for a right paint job and about 3K for interior. So I end up with 24K car selling in high teens.

I stopped doing paint and body work over ten years ago.

nostatic 08-04-2006 01:01 PM
