I won't even let a door company quote me = they keep on saying they need to come out and measure, I keep insisting the measurement is 106 x 74 rough out and give them the address of my 2nd house. I know once they make their way out to the water the price increases by 50% - just like when I have the porsche parked in the garage.

I do that for "equity" type repairs....for example, I paid my P wrench 2200.00 fo go through my gearbox. The while-you're-in-there's included a clutch and a flywheel seal, among other things. Sure enough, one week later the FW seal leaked....and they pulled the motor and fixed it no questions asked.....I'd have slit my wrists if I'd done this DIY and had to do it over. They did it in a day. Now I can sell the car with a new clutch abd gearbox if I want ( not yet).

I clipped a coupon for a $9.95 oil change at the local Chevy dealer. It says "foreign cars extra". Does it really cost them more to change the oil on a Camry than on a Cadillac? I know this doesn't stack up to the $1,700 water heater but I'm curious.

I suspect the police agency has a contract when a car is involuntarily towed (and safely stored) into police custody. I did this for a while in college. AAA cannot do it in these circumstances.

Price gouging? How about $3.09 for a gallon of $1.79 gas.
